    Sounds like Landry took a year or two off.

    I think Landry was redshirted his fourth year of college because of a knee injury/surgery. He came back for another year, but obviously even then he still didn't have the hops that he has now.

    That is arguably THE key element of moneyball. Don't draft on physical talent, find a track record that you can look at. Billy Beane stoped drafting high school kids and started going after colledge kids and minor leaguers. He gave up on the potential of the perfect body type and went where he could find verifable data of people actually playing the game. I thought the book was facinating.
