Sheesh, I thought it was just me. That movie did nothing for me. The situations were way too over the top to have any effect on me. The music was good though. Seriously, I liked this movie the first time I saw it......when it was called Grand Canyon.
Hope you made it to the bathroom first... Seriously though, why must you people find a way to criticize everything? I'm not saying Crash was an all-time great film, but it's better than so much other crap out there. And if it weren't for the racist overtones it probably would have made for a very dull film. And the movie that wins really has zero impact on any of us, it's just a way for directors and such to be able to charge more for their services in the future.
I'm so glad Crash won. It would of been good if Terrence Howard was nominated for Best Actor and won.
if American History X came out last year, that would so have won, way better than any movie that were nominated.
as soon as Crash and Brokeback Mountain won Original and Adapted screenplay Oscars, I knew that Ang Lee would win for Best Director and Crash would win for Best Picture... the Golden Globes received too much negative publicity from conservative America for choosing Transamerica and Brokeback Mountain, so the Academy took the easy way out and did their best to honor Brokeback with Adapted Screenplay and Best Director... tomorrow, we will read articles with the words "Hollywood Conspiracy"
Maybe, but Hoffman was BRILLIANT as Capote. His performance, in terms of a biopic, was right up there with Denzel in Malcom X. To me, Staightham (sp?) also deserved to win for his portrayal of Murrow. But, film noir isn't going to stand a chance against giant ensembles and epics in today's Hollywood. I was glad to see Reece Witherspoon win for Walk the Line. Great speech. By the way, who thought Stewart was really good as host? I thought he did a great job.
Would yall say 2005 was one of the weaker years?...overall. It would be interesting to position the best film versus the last 10 winners...
I stopped reading there Seriously though, Hoffman did a great job, but Denzel as Malcolm X is STILL -- to me at least -- the single best and most perfected role of any actor in any role in the history of cinema.
Jon Stewart is the ****. One of the funniest guys on TV. I saw Crash and Brokeback Mountain, and honestly I hoped Brokeback would win Best Picture.
I love all types of movies. Horror, mystery, drama, comedy, fantasy, political, biopics, ect. I like them all if done well. That being said...I also love movies that you can totally get into and take yourself away from the everyday world. There just weren't that many "magical" movies this year. There were some well made, quality flicks...but there was nothing particularly fantastic. I like realistic or historical movies just fine...but I live in reality...I don't usually want to go to the movies to see more "realness." You know what I'm talking about, right? Movies that are made because they are the reason we have movies in the first place? Movies that you walk out of saying...now THAT was a movie. Not much of that this year. Kind of a weak year, but that's OK.
Munich and Capote did not deserve to be in the Best Picture category. Walk the Line should've been one of the nominees as well as either "The Squid and the Whale" or "The Constant Gardener." I didn't have a problem with the other three nominees besides the two I just mentioned.
Ok, for those that are bashing Crash. Yes, maybe it's not the best picture among the 5 nominees, but it's still a great movie. Don't piss at the movie just because it won the Picture of the Year.
Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar tonight for Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song), that's pretty amazing.
