I really like college football and had not heard of him before the draft either. I knew of Kiwanuka(sp?) Lawson, Dummerville but had never heard of Mario. I agree that it looks bad when we select a player #1 overall that was not even the MVP of his own team. He better be better than Julius for him to be considered any sort of success here in Houston. And those are very high expectations.

Lawson was a really good player all year (heart and hustle type guy). Williams didn't have a good first half and then had an amazing second half. They've said he takes plays off and what not so that may have had something to do with it. i know he's more naturally gifted then Lawson (from what i read about him he's probably as gifted as any lineman) I just hope he puts it together.

I'd heard of all those guys as well. Mathias was considered a top 10 guy last year and now was a reach in the first round. I was suprised Dummerville fell as far as he did (he must have had terrible workouts). I like what Irvin said, when are we going to stop looking at 40 times, verticals, ect and start watching what guys do on the field. Look at Rice, Cris carter ect.... They weren't the best athletes in the world but they were great football players and had outstanding work ethics (Carter after he found God and stoopped using drugs). Now it seems that if I went to the combine and ran a 4.4 and had a 38 inch vertical I'd get drafted.

And Reggie Bush was probably the 4th best offensive player in the Rose Bowl (Young, Leinart, White).

What's kinda funny to me is that some of the same people knocking the Williams selection because of his college performance didn't like the selection of Demeco Ryans, SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Ryans is kind of slow. It's not that I don't like him it's that I would have preferred a CB (b/c no matter how good Williams may be all the opposing QB has to do is loft it as Buchanon and it's a completion). I wanted Aston Youbooty or Jimmy Williams (I now he had character issues but i like his style of play)

ESPN's talking heads all have their own agendas and biases which a lot of the time overlap. Kiper, I think, is the one that gave the Texans a B+. He had Bush higher, but the difference between Mario and Bush wasn't that great. The picks after that, the Texans got great value based on his board.

Bufalo, who had reaches for the first two picks, still got an average score becuase their next two picks were as good as the first were bad.

Kiper's main agenda is that he creates a board that he knows is perfect. The better you do according to his board, the better your draft. He didn't give anyone an A because that would mean the NFL GMs are near his ability in draft knowledge.

Yep, your right, I swear I saw him listed at 6'4". I am getting older though. I still find it funny that everyone calls hims undersized when Hawk is 6'1" and 245ish.

NFLdraftscout.com had some really good things to say about him and is an excellent website if you are interested.

I've decided that the only pick I don't like is the TE in the 4th round pick.

This was posted on Foxsports website:

WORST PICK (in the fourth round)
Houston Texans: Owen Daniels, TE, Wisconsin — The first player taken in the fourth round, Daniels wasn't a particularly productive player at Wisconsin, catching only 22 passes for 268 yards last year. Daniels was recruited to Wisconsin as a quarterback and still hasn't developed enough as a blocker to do much to help the Texans' running game. At best, Daniels will be able to contribute to Houston's special teams.
    -------------------------------------------
And I know, who cares what some nameless writer says about this or that pick. And maybe in a few years, the guy can contribute. But at the top of the fourth round, you should be able to get more than this. This was the spot where we should have taken a DB.

Ya, I thought this was a wasted pick, especially since we could have used some players in our secondary. Guys like Bing, Lowry, and Ko Simpson were available.

Also glad to see Sugar Land's own Cory Rodgers get picked up in the 4th as well.

Stumps me too. Tim Day went undrafted, Joppru looks like he may play, we resigned Norris ,signed a FA fullback and signed Putzier. I know this guy is going to be an H-back but how many 6'2" 250 lb. guys does one team need?

I hope our OL picks pan out...They have potential, the key word being potential...I suspect we go 7-9 this year...

I'm sure someone has noted this, but the Bears wanted Owen Daniels. That's funny because according to Ourlads they would have taken DeMeco Ryans in the 1st round had they not traded the pick to Buffalo.

Assuming you meant Addai. He is an interesting back, he showed a lot of speed at the combine. He has some big shoes to filli in Indy.

Did you know he is from sharpstown?

It will really do your credibility much good (or salvage what is left) if you do not refer to the ESPN football crew when it comes to looking for backup opinions.

They are arguably the worst post draft crew I have seen so far on TV or heard on the radio. They are so unprofessional and it reeks. The draft should be approached with a healthy dose of carefulness and balance. But it seems like those guys were pissed off because the Texans made them look bad - I never thought I would see the day when grown men will be pissed off because their mock draft and silly predictions was reduced to fools rubbish. It was shameful to watch.

So KAS13 pick your friends well - that ESPN will only make you look bad.

Does any like our 2nd rd pick??
I think they should have gone with Jimmy Williams CB from Va Tech.
He projected as a 1st rounder. He could have easily replace Phillip Buchanon Don't know why he slipped into the 2nd rd or maybe pick LenDale White. That would have been very interesting possibly that would have soften the blow of not selecting Bush.

I've seen DeMeco Ryans projected in the top 15. I think it was an excellent choice and in my opinion, he will show that he is already the best linebacker on the Texans.

did anyone see Casserly on the Draft Review Special last night on ESPN2? trey wingo (i think) opened up the interview asking CC his opinion on what "some of the headlines" about the Williams pick were.... you could tell the Casserly wa pretty pissed off about the question. he literally said "now why would you ask me something like that?" pretty funny.

Casserly did explain the entire decision well, though. money was never issue, and stated they made their decision wed. night and negotiated solely with williams' agent from then on. discussed that they decided having a real playmaker on defense outwieghed having a lpaymaker on offense and that you win games and championships with defense. also mentioned that barry sanders was the greatest running back he'd ever seen (and IMO, bush would be lucky to be as good as sanders was), yet sanders had one freaking playoff win in his entire career.

it was a good interview and i'm actually pretty excited for next season.

    good interview.
