Besides the Mario pick, I'm ok with the draft...I was PO'd all day friday as I still think we should have chosen Bush...But, the braintrust has spoken... Unfortunately, Mario will be compared to Bush the rest of his career...
This may have already been posted, but according to Mel Kiper, the Texans were tied with the Niners and Ravens for the best draft.
it's an Insider article, RM95.... hook us up. on a related note, FOX sports gave us "B" grade. they liked a lot of our picks, only knock was that we could've gotten williams by trading down a spot or two.
Everyone has said that but NO was supposed to have their eye on MW at number 2 so I don't see how we could have traded back. NO didn't even get serious offers for their pick when RB fell to them.
I thought the Titans had a really good draft as well. VY and White could be a very good duo in the future, Lowry and Orr were also decent picks. But if White and VY turn out to be everything they are suppose to be, the Titans just took a HUGE step ahead of us. The Patriots also had an great draft. Maroney is a solid pick, and Chad Jackson will be a steal. David Thomas should also fit in very nicely w/ Brady and co. They filled in a lot of holes w/ a lot of talent.
Does anyone have anything on Ryans (2nd round pick)? We could have drafted Justice (OT) or a CB and we chose an OLB. Could this have anything to do about Wong's health?
From what I've read, Ryans isn't a spectacular player, but he's smart and instinctive, and a good leader. He's definitely a small linebacker...not the best athlete in the draft. If you go click on his name at nfl.com it will give you a detailed description. I think Kubiak and company are avoiding questionable character at all costs right now...which is good for team chemistry. Obviously last year not all the players were getting along and weren't on the same page. We didn't get a CB because we got Mario Williams...with a good pass rush, we'll do fine with most of the guys we have back there right now.
I watched several Alabama games this year and the kid can play. I think it is laughable that his size is questioned he is 6'4" and 236. He runs a 4.6 forty and has good quickness. These are very similar numbers to VY whom everyone thinks is a big, fast, terrific athlete - go figure. He is very intelligent and diagnoses plays quickly. I am pretty sure he is your starting strong side LB this season. He was listed as a first round player on pretty much every draft board I saw.
I didn't know where to put my response to all the comments made about me over the weekend (and I wasn't going to make my own thread out of it) so I decided to put it here. If it needs to be moved, feel free to do so. First of all, Fegwu was right when he said nothing was guranteed. However, up until Thursday (when negotiations fell apart) everything I reported was true. I can't control the fact that Bush's agent told him not to sign the contract faxed over and that Mario Williams did. For the people who spent their whole Friday nights on a message board looking for quotes of mine, you're sad. It's Friday night, you should be doing something other then spending hours combing through a message board trying to dig up comments from another poster. Funny thing is, none of you were complaing or laughing when I was giving workout updates and all that Rockets information. EVERYONE was wrong about this. People didn't know Williams was becoming a real possibility until Friday around 4PM. That's just the truth. So for all the people expecting a name change or me not to show up on these boards, wrong again. What i won't do anymore is post any inside info. I'm sure plenty of people will make comments off that but I've been right on everything up until this draft. The Texans went against what they said they were going to do and the bottom line is still if Reggie had signed the contract then he would have been a Texan. Everyone knows that.
The problem I have is your arrogance about the "info". You stated Bush to Texans as a fact, book it, move on. Only you were wrong. Big time. The Texans weren't ever bluffing with taking Mario Williams. Kubiak chose him, CC agreed, and McNair signed off. Those are facts printed in paper.
Williams only became a choice when negotiations broke down with Bush. He was the pick but he didn't sign the contract. They got concerned and went with their backup plan who was Williams. Only I was wrong, lol. Myself, every announcer and media member up until Thursday. Friday was when everything fell apart. My arrogance, I'll admit that. There is so much arrogance on this board it's ridiculous.
I've searched for every source on the internet to back this up and found none. Do you have a source to verify that Bush didn't sign the contract and that is why the Texans pulled the trigger on Williams?
It was all over ESPN this morning and they also talked about on 610. Call 610 if you want or watch ESPN later on today.
How much do you think the housing scandal factored into this. I'm starting to think it must have some
Thanks, I was asking for informational purposes, it wasn't on the ESPN website this morning (at least not at 6:00am)
