The Raiders have incredible bad luck though it's funny. Huff is the 5th defensive back we've drafted in the 1st round since 2002 and every single one of them has sucked so much ass and one even had to be relegated to the Houston Texans.
*cough/sneeze**brain aneurism* I'm jealous of the Raiders and their Huff. Kudos to them. The Texans started off rough, then evened it out then finished even rougher with the talent still on the board. Esp with our needs. Now one of our needs might be a helmet and a short bus. But I'm hopeful.
http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/review/topundrafted.html Looks like there's going to be quite a few DBs available to invite to camp...would really like to bring in Kudla, too...
He wasn't? 14.5 sacks and the dozens of analysts I listened to all college football season say otherwise.
I love how the past 4 months of message board debates were completely futile at the end. Kinda hilarious actually. The Texans better hope Mario is the next coming of Bruce Smith or Julius Peppers. Ryans was a suprising pick, if Peek moves back to OLB, we're gonna have a small glut w/ Greenwood, Wong, Ryans, Peek. If we could redo the draft now that we know who was available: 1. Mario Williams- No point debating this anymore. 2. Winston Justice- Character issues dropped him far, but talent-wise, he was a Top 12 pick. 3a. Ashton Youboty- I'm very happy w/ the Eric Winston pick, but if we picked Justice, Youboty could have been a nice addition to the secondary. 3b. David Thomas- We picked up Owen Daniels in the 4th but it seems that he has major injury problems. Thomas a solid TE that can be a big threat as a receiver and can be a good blocker. 4. Darnell Bing- Suprised to see we haven't addressed the secondary at all this offseason. Adding Bing to S and Youboty to CB would have been nice additions.
We shouldve taken Leonard Pope in the 3rd and Max Jean Giles in the 4th round Pope will be tremendous. IMO, Pope and Giles will be better than Spenser and Owens.
Texans signed undrafted free agent CB/FS John Walker from USC. He is very raw but a huge upside. He must have really impressed Kubiak and his staff at USC Pro Day. As a youngster, he was a television actor who appeared in such shows as "E.R." and "7th Heaven" (in fact, he didn't play football until his sophomore season at Birmingham because of a clause in his acting contract that prevented him from doing anything that could affect his appearance). http://usctrojans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/walker_john00.html
Seems to me the Raiders current kicker had at least one run in with the law (one of which involved date rape). A former kicker (Cole Ford) was involved in a shooting at Ziegfried and Roy's. Also, didn't one of their players (a center, I vaguely recall) have mental issues and missed a playoff game or maybe even the SB? I agree the team has a negative stigma (in part of their own making... "the Dark Side"). But it would be a stretch to call them the "cleanest team in the league...
I was referring to one of the articles that mentioned that Manny Lawson won the team award for best defensive lineman.
Heisman winners rarely are the first selected in the NFL draft. College skills don't always perfectly translate to NFL. Manny is one of the guys who's size didn't matter in College, but it will force him to play OLB in a 3-4 in the NFL or to bulk up and lose some speed. I've seen a few games of NC State. They had a defensive line. I've never seen a Dline as good in college. Hampton and Rogers were a great duo for UT, but NC State had two great DEs with a great penetrating DT.
I thought common consensus was that MJG was too big and slow for a zone blocking scheme and Leonard Pope couldn't block and was considered more of a project.
I saw a ton of SEC last year (which is what happens when you have to catch every UT game at a bar with satellite) and those 2 were very good players, especially Pope. Giles has to lose some weight but he has a lot of talent. IMO, Pope will be a better player than DeMeco Ryans (obviously different positions). Pope's upside is tremendous.
The common consensus was thrown out the window when the Texans drafted a Spencer. He moves well for his size, but still not as well as some others that were on the board.
To quote all Bush fans from last week and beyond whenever someone wanted to discuss VY: "We're not taking Bush, so GET OVER IT!" Why are we still talking about Bush when it's obvious he's not going to be a Texan? Take it to the Hangout.
