I stand corrected, the play shown is actually from this year's OU game. Not shown by ESPN was the next play - TD pass to Ramonce Taylor in the end zone.
I never said 'he' sucks, I said he sucks for the first pick of the draft. Thanks for the clarification. The con reasons are pretty obvious and in no way unique, why restate the obvious, esp when that poster has already posted at least one link to one of the (many) critical articles. IMO, the 'pro' picks have more work to substantiate their opinion since they clearly are swimming upstream on this one. BTW, I understand the annoyance. I feel similar when I'm almost always on the 'pro' side of a Rockets trade. But whereas I feel that the Rockets org continues to pursue championships I feel more and more that the Texans are not after a championship, just money, and the Houstonians who shelled out so much for this franchise deserve a h*ll of a lot more.
I did not comdemn his career. I think he'll probably have a fine career. But just like some are so willing to stamp their approval on this FIRST pick, other have the same right to say it s u c k s. As for the don't fit in, I was returning the favor:
I never stated a dislike for Mario. It's not his fault. My anger is directed at the Texans. McNair was questionned and mentions getting past Peyton. Is that even serious? We sucked last year, and we're worried about tweaking our defense? We should have picked the guy who could turn this ship around, whether VY or RB I didn't care in the end. Mario may be great and I hope that he is, but I think RB or VY or both will have more of an impact. And Mario is still a gamble; he may have the athletics but he had them last year as was considered the 2nd best DE on NCSU. He's no given. If you're going to throw the dice against RB and VY both....
If we had picked Reggie Bush, yes we'd have a dynamite offense. That wouldn't change our horrendous D. We lost 6 games that we led at halftime...we didn't get those leads because our offense was completely inept...we lost those leads because our defense was. The addition of Bush wouldn't make us nearly as explosive as the Colts or the Chiefs...2 offensive teams that have not had good playoff success. Sure, we'll get there (maybe), but it's not like we'll be anything than a perennial one and out. I understand that being an expansion team, we want a playoff appearance...but thinking long-term, Mario Williams was a calculated risk. I'm not saying Mario is going to be the savior. There are lots of #1 busts as well as booms. I'm just saying it's not nearly the apocalypse or end of the world scenario everyone seems to be b****ing about.
Because you just don't see the likes of even ONE RB or VY in every draft. Time will tell, but with the Mario pick you're betting that both RB and VY will not achieve superstardom. That's why it's incomprehensible to so many.
By the way, 12 USC players have been drafted so far vs. 6 for Texas... So, VY is at least better than 7 NFL draft picks put together.
I wouldn't mind us taking a chance on Marcus Vick here. I mean, towards the end of the 7th, chances are you won't find a impact player anyway.
Why can't Mario achieve superstardom? That's what's so incomprehensible to me... why are you guys assuming this guy can't play?
Also by the way, 5 of 12 USC players were from the defense... so much for the argument that the USC defense was something out of Pop Warner.
I'm glad nobody got Vick...he's a chump. I really thought the Raiders would take him, but I guess they figured they already had their quota of undisciplined players with Moss.
Invite Dwayne Slay and Taurean Henderson to camp as well. Slay could be an awesome special teams player.
No, he better be able to 'play'. Again he wasn't even considered the best DE on his own team which was no where near as strong as SC or UT. And both Bush and Young were collegiate STARS. In many games, they looked like they were playing a different game. That does not guarantee NFL stardom, but one would rather have that going for you than not.
Yeah because the Raiders have always looked for undersized underachieving QBs with 8 criminal offenses by the age of 19 to come in and lead by example. The Raiders have been by far one of the most clean teams in the league for the past decade or so with Darrell Russell being the lone black sheep. It really irritates me that it is assumed if some guy is a complete asshat Al Davis will give him a chance. That has NEVER been the case. Al has given plenty of guys chances over the years who maybe didn't live up to the hype or had a reputation of questionable behavior, but once they got here there were very few who ended up being insubordinate. Also Randy Moss has been a consumate professional even since he arrived here and has been described by his teammates as "the best teammate you could ask for" What an undisciplined idiot, I hope he dies. I don't see where you have any reason to even suggest such things either being a Chiefs fan. I seem to recall more than a few Chiefs players having several "run-ins" with the law in the last year alone, but maybe that was just because Good Ol' Dick couldn't stay mad at them and decided to just give them a big tearful man-hug and tell em everything was gonna be ok. Lets hope Herm rights the ship there, wouldn't want to have a team full of misbehaving, undisciplined scaliwags. Oh yeah and tell Lamar congratulations on naming the chiefs new fan base "The Chief Nation" hell thats the most original thing i've ever heard.
I am so glad Marcus Vick didn't get picked. He didn't deserve it, whether based on his baggage OR his on field performance. If he wants to keep playing football, I think Edmonton has a team... but they probably don't want him either.
