If you are a UT fan and watched about 10 games per season, you'll realize his career started to peak when his freshman WR's became sophmores and actually learned how to run routes.
I did... but it doesn't change the fact that he still looked more comfortable in the shotgun, rather than under center.
I don't know if this has been posted yet, but it is a good read about why Williams is a better fit than Bush. The article was written last week and updated soon after the Texans made their pick. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/columns/story?columnist=smith_michael&id=2419503
At least one guy won't be bashing us on around the horn tommorow. At first, I thought he took the position just to be "different" than the rest of the national media talkin heads... but I must say, he makes his case for Williams in that article better than anybody else has thus far (including our venerable GM Charlie Casserly). When the article first came out, I glanced over it because I assumed they were set with Bush... but reading it again, its pretty interesting to see the points he makes, now that the team actually did choose him.
Wali Lundi [rquoter] He will be a backup for a season or two, but will eventually be a good starting power back -- he reminds you a lot of Stephen Davis and Mike Anderson when they came out of college. [/rquoter]
Now that we have Mario Williams, there is no need for a secondary. First man ever to record 72 sacks in a season
Wali Lundy looks like a decent pick, a good short yardage back who will help replace Jonathon Wells. It looks like the new regime is convinced that Buchanon and Faggins are good enough to play opposite of Dunta. Although it's not like we were going to find a starting CB at this point in the draft.
I don't know what the NFL bias about the shotgun is all about. I recall NFL teams using routinely from the late 80's through the mid 90's, but it seems to have fallen out of favor despite the fact that passing is as popular as ever. I understand (but don't necessarily buy) the arguments about it being harder to run out of. But seriously, when you have a 5 WR set, you ain't fooling anybody. Might as well start where you're going to end up.
Can any UT fan explain why Rod Wright is falling??? Last year I remember seeing mocks having him in the top 10 if he would have declared. Am I dreaming are wasn't he a a finalist for DLmen of the year this past season? What has he done for his stock to drop so much???
He peaked his freshman year, and got worse every year after that. At times over the last two years he's been dominant, but those plays have been few and far between. I have no idea why he was a finalist for the Lombardi, he certainly didn't deserve it with his play this season.
He just did not make a ton of plays this year. Wright looked more motivated as a freshman and sophmore than he did this year. He has all the talent in the world but doesn't put in 100% effort and he didn't dominate. An absolute steal for anyone who can motivate him.. He has more talent than Casey Hampton but only 1/2 the motor.
