I didn't say I liked the pick. Hell, I've never even heard of the guy. But that doesn't automatically mean he sucks. And my post wasn't knocking the posters who disagree with our draft picks, just the people who type crap like that without giving a solid reason for their opinions. There are plenty of posts like that in all the draft threads. It's annoying.
Well, according to ESPN, Owen Daniels was the best TE left on the board. And I guess TE was sort of a need for us. *shrug* Maybe Jerome Harrison will still be around when we pick again (although I doubt it).
Gotcha. Staying open-minded to the pick and being willing to give players an actual chance to step onto the field before making a final evaluation on how their entire careers will play out means you don't fit in?
Man, I thought you were going to go the fun route to kick the Bush supporters while they were down. Portland drafted Bowie because they already had Drexler. The Saints didn't draft Young because they had Brees. Bush being the next best player, like Bowie, was drafted by the Saints. Not, that I agree with this, but it is a more accurate Bowie analogy than the Bush supporters have given.
Now that i've had my meltdown, i'm ok with this pick. Not happy with it, but ok with it. We needed to improve our defense in the worst way and it looks like we are on the road to doing just that.
Just when I was warming up to the second and two third round picks, here comes a reach at round four. The second string TE at Wisconsin? OK, I understand the interest in getting a pass-catching TE. But this one has been a walking trauma center. The common thread... good character. Meanwhile, our secondary hasn't been addressed. I would have to believe that is a bigger area of need than a third string TE...
I think the problem I have with Mario is that he got almost all of his sacks in just a few games late in the season, while in other games he was a complete no-show. I am not seeing the consistency I would demand of a number 1 pick. I am not saying he will be a bust because just like any player in the draft they could be a legend or a bust. No way to know. We know the Jets were willing to trade up to New Orleans giving up 3 picks, 1 being the 4th pick. My first preference would have been to take Bush, but if they were dead set against that I would have rather done some deal with the Jets, taken D'Brickshaw with the 4th pick which is the position of most need on this team assuming Mario, Reggie, and Vince were gone, and then gotten a few more picks to shore up some other spots on top of that. Just my opinion. That said, I hope Mario turns out to be a first-ballot hall of famer, and I will be rooting for that.
I feel the exact same way. But in their defense (no pun intended), pretty much everyone drafted on the 2nd day is a reach. Still, I was hoping for some help in our secondary.
I'm overall happy with the Texans' draft. Sure, there is nothing to jump out and get excited about, nothing that will make people come out to the public practices to see the new, good crop of rookies. But, they are all good picks that will translate to more wins and a better overall, balanced team.
LOL, now ESPN is bashing Vince again with the same segment from yesterday - minus HOT PINK STRIPEY. Of course if what I've read on the Texas boards this AM is correct, they're showing ONE play - from his freshman season against Oklahoma in only 3rd or 4th appearance ever, who had the best defense in the universe that year. Honestly, love or hate vince young, for that to be the one play they show (why don't they show him throwing for touchdowns against Michigan, OSU, or USC defenses loaded with NFL stars, with NFL genius defensive coordinators?) is downright pathetic.
I agree. What's going to be interesting is Vince's transition from the shotgun-only appraoch, to being almost exclusively under center. I noticed that as his college career started to peak, it coincided with him being more and more in the shotgun. That's not going to work in the NFL.... but having Norm Chow there to coach him thru the transition will help him tremendously. Also, Chow will be more valuable as a "mentor" than Steve "me" Mcnair ever was going to be... its better for VY that McNair will be jettisoned before the season.
