Thomas was very smart in the pre-draft phase, playing up his previously unknown deep snap ability and making it known that he'll be a valuable special teams guy. NE likes players who can do lots of different things... he may not get a lot of time at TE, but he will play special teams and they will find spots... probably near the goal line and short yardage... to make use of him. Again, he played the process very well and ends up on a damn good team that values attitude and intelligence as much as sheer physical ability.
Sorry to post so late, but. DUMB DUMB DUMB! If any pu**Y fans like Da Da want to watch Vince in Hicksville, so be it. I'm amazed at what the Texans lost today... MARKETING! Let me give you a clue on how many "Williams" jerseys will be sold... ZERO! A friend said he better be the second coming of Reggie White. I say Bullsh*t. He better be better than f****** Lawrence Taylor to even justify this moronic pick. Remember back in '83 when we could have had Elway? He got swiped and we took Matthews. DO YOU THINK THE OILERS WOULD STILL BE HERE IF WE'D GOT ELWAY??? This decision was r****ded. I'd take Leinart over this idiot. And Super-mario knows how to find me. I'll be the one throwing barrels at him... DOINK DE DE WEE DOO! Why is my team always so stupid?
We picked ninth that year, so we never really had a shot at Elway. In fact, I'd guess that Matthews was the best ninth pick in the history of the draft. So we made out OK that year.
The Titans drafted two players who simply dominated the game of football at their level while too many other teams (namely the Texans) got caught up on the nagging little "knocks" and "intangibles" Meet the new Steve McNair and Eddie George, un'****in believable. I can't even begin to describe how envious I am of the Titans right now.
Lol. Wikipedia Matthews was drafted ninth in the first round of the 1983 NFL draft by the Houston Oilers, where he would block for the legendary Earl Campbell and eventually play all line positions (Guard, Center and Tackle), going to the Pro Bowl for the latter two. He was selected to fourteen Pro Bowls in all, a league record. His entire career was spent with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Oilers/Tennessee Titans.
Fatty my bro, how long did it take you to master of the fine art of "Making a Stupid**** out of yourself" Just curious.
Wowo, I love the over-reactions in this thread. From the looks of it, the new staff is going to try and build the defense; not a bad thing..... Does the line still need addressing sure, but maybe we can can find some scheme guys in the next couple of rounds.... For all of you Titan jock riders. I just got one thing for you...... As of today **** VY and **** the Titans.... Go away ride their jock.... I'll se ya when we kick your ass twice a year......
Wow.... You are all morons.... I lived this.. Did you? Take a pak of "I don't know a damn thing" on the way out.
The Texans had a fantastic draft overall. Like the first pick or not, they got 4 guys who will be starters for a very long time, and with the glut of talent left for the first pick of the fourth round, it could be 5.
According to a Pitt fan on another forum I frequent, Spencer was a guy originally recruited to be a d-lineman, but had to switch around in college, which slowed his growth a bit. Other than that, it looks like he has a ton of talent I love the Winston pick. I was yelling at my TV when we didn't take him in the 2nd round, but getting him in the 3rd was even better. Of course, I'm biased because I'm a Miami fan

I'm pretty satisfied. I would have liked to have seen a CB in the second round, but I'd rather have a solid LB with leadership than a CB with questionable character (Jimmy Williams). We already have one CB like that... Speaking of P-burnt, perhaps he's going to get one last shot to live up to the potential? Obviously they are not giving up on him yet.
A pretty hilarious look at the Jets historical first round selections: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZxNeFLuY98
