That is what I said all along, LeBron's dunk: all power, lack creativity.

But he still should enter the contest for at least once though. He could win the contest easily because of his fame.

how sweet to have a teammate like Nash. He can pass you the ball with his hand, head, and foot.

In my opinion, hands down the best dunk of the night was actually the FIRST dunk, JR Smith's behind the back throw down. Talk about creative. I didnt know that was physically possible to do!

JR got robbed on the 45 on that score because he was the first dunker and the judges werent warmed up. Quite frankly that is probably in the top 5 of the best dunks I have ever seen. The degree of difficulty is off the charts! No other dunk tonight was as physically demanding as that one. And he didnt have any help either.

Josh Smith gets props for working the crowd with the Wilkins jersey. Working the crowd in my opinion is a lost art in this competition and in my opinion is huge in influencing the crowd and thus the judges. Think Dee Brown and the Reebok pumps.

Smith had some great dunks and my favorite actually was the 360 dunk then slamming it with his left hand instead of the right hand by going on the backside of the rim. Nice!

Great to see Atlanta get something positive for their organization. They deserve something good for once.

Once again Nash assists Amare. Hilarious! The dunk via the header was very creative though. But in reality, I think I was more impressed with Nash's assists than Amare's dunks. I guess Nash really is the MVP.

The only negative was all of the misses. Especially for Chris Anderson. He should be blackballed at this competition forever! Man that got painful after a while. Bring back Bones Barry! ;)

Overall though great dunk contest! Kudos all around.

    c'mon now... no way.

josh smith was good. but spud, jordan, nique, and vince carter were probably all a level above.

agree with deuce. best dunk of the night was the behind the back by j.r. smith. he had to take three tries though...

I thought the best dunk was off Nash's head, but everything else you said was right on. Josh Smith deserved to win. He expected to be in the finals as evident by bringing out Wilkin's jersey, played the crowd by teaming up w/ K-Mart and overall just brought his A-game and made his first attempts. Props to Josh Smith. He played a great against the Rox and is obviously for real.

wasnt sure if anyone else was watching but during one of the tnt promos they had highlights of every all-star in like a 90sec spot, several of wade,lebron,kobe,shaq,amare/nash a few with tmac, duncan,kg,and the rest but there was not a single highlight of Yao. I am not a YOF or anything but its still VERY ODD to do a highlight spot showcasing everyone except the man who received the most votes EVER. There were so many of wade and lebron it wasnt even funny. Later on they had a spot of MJ's final all-star game then shaq winning mvp last year and then had a 30 sec thing of just lebron. Now i know lebron gets huge media love but i thought this was ridiculous. Dont be surprised at all if lebron wins MVP tomorrow if the east wins.

i agree jr smith's behind the back was the most difficult to coordinate dunk, but the problem was it took 3 tries and again, the aesthetics. that dunk is very hard to do, but it doesn't look as smooth as say josh smith's reverse 360 windmill a la vince carter. by the time he got it around his back he had to rush his hand up and just push it through real quick. amazingly difficult, never done before, but like a jason richardson between the legs backward dunk, just lacks that little extra smoothness the best dunks have. also it was first and we weren't warmed up yet.

the off the backboard, off the head dunk was just too creative (even when the miss on the first try ruined the surprise) to deny a good score.

man, even though this contest was great, one time they just need to put a big prize (like 500K or something) and get 4 or 6 huge names (out of kobe, tmac, vince, francis, josh smith, richardson, james) locked into the dunk contest so that it's hyped up all season and just have a showdown for the ages. people wouldn't even complain that they're greedy for wanting money if it actually went down. stern usually seems pretty on the ball and pretty in tune with marketing, you would think he would try something like this. could you imagine people trying to get tickets for that?

Good idea, but I guess they'd have to change the name from "up and coming"

i'm guessing that wouldn't be too tough.

hype it as the contest to determine the best dunker ever. guys who either just don't wanna do it or don't wanna look bad would probably look even worse for dodging the ultimate dunk contest. so either you look bad for dodging or we get a great contest. get the 4 big winners (kobe, vince, richardson, smith) and then throw in james and tmac (or i guess francis but i don't see him competing with these guys). dammit why can't things like this happen.

I think they should have a pool of players, for instance maybe 2 dunkers from each team in a ballot and have the fans vote who they want to see in the contest. That would be awesome, but then again having the players to participate would be another story...

I always believe that he could easily beat that poor white dude who could not finish a dunk in 7-8 tries. And that's all about it.

It says a lot about Amare that he used Nash. Everyone is saying

"What would Amare be without Nash".

    Amare's response:

"Sorry guys, but basketball is a team game (even in dunk contests) and Nash is on my team."

    Amare is no Kobe..

My other conspiracy theory about Amare apart from that they were tanking the games without Nash to get him the MVP. He is practicing hard on defence every day. But saving it for the playoffs. When he starts blocking as often as he is capable of, he will be SCARY.

Amare can't hang....so he can't dunk spectacularly in my opinion!!!

You got to be able to hang in the air to make creative dunks...like Carter, Josh Smith and McGrady.

I am not sure LeBron can hang in the air though. He's probably jet from the contest because of Amare. He thought he might lose to Amare and he does not want to be embarrassed. That's my opinion.

Oh one more thing, what is up with that white guy Chris Anderson. Why in the world people think he can dunk?? That is rediculous. Everyone knows white dude can't dunk.

What? Lebron can absolutely hang in the air. He just doesn't have that much creativity with his dunks. Even for the high school dunk contest that I saw him in, his dunks were all power and gliding with little to set it apart from his regular in-game dunks.
