you can waive any player regardless of LT situation(afaik)....the one time amnesty means that their contract doesnt count towards the LT threshold. Most teams are gonna use it on players that get tons of money. Imo, Spoon and Baker are prime candidates for this if we are sorely in need of a roster spot. Thankd for everything Doc...taking the time and spending your own cash to go up and cover these show you are truely a man of distinction and class...
Cool, thanks for that info! Those are two players that I think could help provide some nice depth to our roster. We need a solid 3rd PF on the team in case Howard goes down with injury again. We dont want to have to count on Spoon for heavy PF minutes. Baxter could be that guy. And a young and athletic scorer at the backup 3 would be great and Glover could be that guy too. Certainly these guys should be given a look at training camp.
It was kind of interesting listening to 610 this morning. Dennis Lindsey said one of the reasons they did not take a good undersized 4 in the draft was because they felt that there were some good undersized 4's out there like Baxter that they could invite to the summer league. Obviously targeting Swift as a free agent was also a big factor for that decision as well.
DOD, great work! I have read all five threads but didn't reply ... I figured i'd better do so now before it's too late! Re. Hayes, he is a good defender and has solid fundamentals, but he is undersized for a 4 and too slow for a 3. (I said the same thing about Tayshaun Prince, but Hayes isn't as long armed as Prince and doesn't get as many blocks, has a less reliable shot, and doesn't have that little hook of Prince's.) Hayes is a good rebounder, but can be beaten to the ball. He has trouble finishing inside against bigger defenders and looks uncomfortable shooting from the outside. He has a great heart and never gives up, but that may not be enough to make it in the NBA. He's not great at anything but is a superb team player. The slogan Kentucky used to promote him for the Wooden award was "All he does is win." Unfortunately, his senior year wasn't as solid as his junior year and he went nowhere in the Wooden voting. I think playing beside a clueless freshman center (undrafted Randolph Morris) that he had to protect hurt him. I honestly don't see him making an NBA squad this year, but with some added mass and a reliable 18' jumper, he could make it. He's rugged (tied the all time record for games played at Kentucky) and tough (had his nose broken and came back to play without even wearing a mask) and those are qualities you just can't teach. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the development league and possibly make an NBA team next year or even later this year if someone needs an emergency replacement for an injured 4.
With 12 rebounds. Remember GM Dawson said what they want him to develop now is his rebounding and shot blocking skills - at least that shows that he can take instructions and humbly accept them. Maybe he is thinking too much as well. Maybe it is fitness level or rather fartigue after just finishing his season in the Bundesliga barely 10-14 days ago. But we do not necessarily need his offense. If he is focussing only on his rebounding and shot blocking then I am fine with it. He could grow into a specialist now and then round out later. Offense is one that can come easily than the other two critical tools. I am disappointed that his positioning is still poor and his hands is average so far and that will lead me to lean towards keeping him here to develop him in our own way. That said, Draftexpress is very kind to him and I can understand DoD disappointment is bsed on relativity. They seem to see potential and promise in his "tools". I will still give him about 2 more years to start showing consistent promise in any "specialty" department just like Sammy, Reggie, Bo and Big Ben did to catch on. He finished a distant second (tied with Lonny) to Andrew Bogut in the rebounding department. That much is encouraging.
Well, I realize you can waive anybody anytime, but Les has been reluctant to do that in the past or we wouldn't have these guys hanging around still. He would still have to pay them and they still count toward your cap. This one-time L-Tax has everyone believing that everyone will be waiving people from their team. I don't think so unless it is a special case with a low cost individual to clear head space to add an additional body. The Rox don't have that problem since we had so many free agents, but they were low $ guys except Deke.
thanks for the updates and recaps on the summer league doc! its much appreciated since none of it was on tv. these summer recaps and pics have kept this past week of the off season somewhat interesting. thanks again. btw can anyone re-up please?
I really wished Hollis Price gets invited to training camp. especially since theres a big a$$ question mark at point guard for the Rockets. but i doubt that the rockets will give him a chance after the actual regular season starts. If the summer league's team was ranned best by Hollis Price; why not get him an invite to training camp? he was sick in college
hollis price? i would take another run with bobby sura at the PG instead. but either way, our PG situation should be taken care of soon when damon stoudamire signs
i'd rather take my chaces with Baker rather than Badiane... it would be a waste of time to get him on board since JVG is very particular about experience.
