The third round finished some time early this morning - Tiger shot a 65 and is a -11 while Dimarco finished with a 74 and is at -8. http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/ Tiger has it all but wrapped up. He rarley loses when having the lead.
After watching the 1st round, I thought Tiger would make a charge for this weekend although I didn't think he would have played this well. If he starts a tournament playing well he usually finishes playing well. He would have posted a good score in the first round if he if weren't for some bad luck like bouncing the ball into the bunker off the pin.
Tiger has this one in the bag I think. Too much confidence going into round 4. Im hoping my boy Chad Campbell can make a good showing in Round 4 as well. (He's not really my boy, but he grew up in West Texas).
That's what Chris DiMarco gets for talking a little trash towards Tiger after day one. When I saw that, I knew Tiger was going to make a charge.
After the first day, I guess a reporter asked him about Tiger's bad breaks. He responded that Tiger's had a lot of good breaks to go with these bad ones and that he doesn't feel sorry for him. Then he did that snapping the fingers while moving his arms saying a very sarcastic "darn". It was obvious that DiMarco was just trying to be funny and not a dick, but I knew that'd be all Tiger needed to make a charge.
I tell you what's going to be even better: Vijay vs Phil. Did you guys hear what happened yesterday? Apparently Vijay told a course official that Phil's spikes were too long and were tearing up the greens. Phil wasn't too happy about having that brought to his attention during the round. There was some sort of confrontation between the two afterwards in the clubhouse. I heard this on USA's golf coverage this morning. Today they are paired together in the final round! That should be worth the price of admission.
http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/index.php?sty=39324 Lefty, Singh in flap over spikes By Bill Huffman, For the Tribune AUGUSTA, Ga. - Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh might not end up being the best of friends following an incident involving Mickelson’s golf spikes Friday at the Masters. Will Nicholson, the tournament official in charge of the competition committee, confirmed officials had to check Mickelson’s spikes as he was leaving the 13th green because of a complaint lodged by one "unidentified player.’’ "We got a call, and how it got labeled onto Phil, I have no idea,’’ Nicholson said. "There was some spikes that apparently tore up some grass, and Phil was the one that was blamed. "One of our officials talked to Phil to see if there was a burr on the side of one of his spikes. He very generously, as you know he would, said he would change them when he got in if there was a problem. There wasn’t.’’ But the incident created a heated confrontation later in the locker room at Augusta National between Mickelson and Singh, who was playing in the group behind Mickelson and who, according to Mickelson and a PGA Tour rules official, filed the complaint. "On the 13th hole, two officials approached me at two different times,’’ said the defending Masters champ. "They were sent by Vijay to check my spikes because he felt they were unduly damaging the greens. "However, I was extremely distracted and would have appreciated if it would have been handled differently, or after the round.’’ As they were completing play of the first round, Mickelson went on to bogey the 14th hole, while Singh birdied the 13th hole, a two-shot swing. Phil is 2-under par and Vijay is at 4-under. Mickelson said the lockerroom incident began when he heard Singh talking about his spikes to other players. "I confronted him. He expressed his concerns,’’ Mickelson said. "I expressed my disappointment with the way it was handled. I believe everything is fine now.’’ Mickelson wears Callaway shoes, and according to a Callaway spokesman, the spikes on those shoes are 8 millimeters. Most players wear either 6-millimeter spikes or soft spikes. The Callaway official said Mickelson also usually wears 6-millimeter spikes, but switched to the longer version because of the slippery conditions. "More than a third of the field is using steel spikes,’’ Mickelson said. "And again, I will make every effort to tap down whatever spike marks I may leave.’’ Singh was unavailable for comment.
dammit, Tiger's gonna blow this. it feels like one of those inexorable collapses that just happen little by little by little over the end of a game/round/match in sports. like having a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter and watching it whiittled to 2 with 30 seconds left and then giving up the game winning 3. it just seems like dimarco's recovered too much and tiger's letting it slip. being a huge Tiger fan and wanting to see this major drought end, i hope he holds on. man, when did you ever have to hope Tiger would "hold on" when he was up 4 to start a final round?
