defense was my real concern. can he guard the quicker pgs in the league (marbury, davis, cassell, kidd, nash, bibby, etc)?

If that was the case, Bryce Drew would be a perennial all star.

In today's game, you need athleticism. IMO, Mark Jackson is a huge liability b/c his defense is so poor due to his lack of athleticism.

I was watching the Syracuse game a couple weeks ago and all the commentators had to say was that he is not ready for the NBA. I always thought he played well, but they kept talking about not having too many skills, just some ups.

I would rather see the Rockets try to get Josh Childress, a big SF that rebounds well and scores well. I think he would be a nice fit.

Is the Rockets first rounder from Chicago? Thats what it says, top 20 protected or 2 second round picks.

ok, it seems that most people here are looking for a PG and a PF. I would also consider looking at a good SF because Jim jackson can only last so long and he needs a dependable backup (which boki is not).

    PG needs
    -Can hit the three
    -good court leader-gets players involved
    -good passing skills
    -good defensive skills
    -can make a lob pass

    PF needs
    -strong rebounder
-has more offensive game than cato, at least hit jumpers from 15 feet
    - bruiser, if not a 3pt specialist.
    -strong defender

    SF
    -Defense
    -can hit the three
-moves well without the ball, unselfish passer

Ok, lets look at the draft picks next year and assume that we can either trade for them or draft them outright. First, lets look at the three types of players. College, International, High School

    College
Probably our best bet to get a solid player, has played in a team, has competed, probably has good fundamentals.

    International
High potential but risky, screams project. Bad defense stereotype, lack of aggression and physically weak stereotypes still exist. Boki's stunning impact after two years may keep us out of players from that region.

    High School
High potential, but even bigger project. Probably cocky, bad decision making skills, need to be developed and JVG is not that kind of guy.

    THa Kiddies
    (plagerized from nbadraft.net
    PGs
    Shaun Livingston 6'7, tall highschooler
    Devin Harris, Wisconsin 6'3
    Ben Gordon, Uconn 6'2
    Sebastian Telfair, highschool 6'0
    Jameer Nelson 6'0 St Josephs
    Roko Leni Ukic 6'4 Croatia
    Rudy Fernandez 6'6 Spain
    Sasha Vujacic- 6'7 Slovenia
    Lionel Chalmers 6'0 Xavier
    Antonio Burks 6'0 High Schooler
    Chris Duhon 6'0 Duke
    Blake Stepp6'4 Gonzaga
    Timmy Bowers 6'2 Mississippi St.
    Rashad Wright 6'3 Georgia
    Anthony Roberson 6'1 Florida
    ---------------

of those that are attainable, I like Duhon and Nelson

there are also the PFs worth looking for, but im too lazy to go there now. I do agree that we should pick up a solid college point guard who is not a scorer but someone who will listen to JVG, play hard and run the team well.

I dont see anything that Jameer Nelson brings to the table than Devin Harris doesnt also bring and better as well. Just because he's getting publicity at a small school like St. Joes doesnt mean he's necessarily what you will want in Houston. Don't forget that Nelson has Delonte West doing a lot there too, making him look better. I would say that Wisconsin is a bit of a better team than St. Joes, and is lead by Harris in ways that Nelson just isnt capable of. Wisconsin runs the Swing offense, which is predicated on ball movement and passes into the post. Harris has no troubles running that system, and would surely fit into a JVG system well. I would even say that Harris already plays better defense and is more responsible in running an offense than Steve Francis has ever been.

The only reason I would see in taking Jameer Nelson is because you may be able to draft him in the second round. He lacks more than people would believe, and I'm not just talking about height.

About Lue, he's apretty good defensive player. Mobley holds his own against anyone he's defnding, and I believe Lue couldn't possibly be worse than Steve Francis.

No way Jameer Nelson even falls to a late 1st rounder...He and Harris will both be top-15 picks in the draft...assuming devin enters the draft.

The only edge I give Harris is his height (of course) and quickness...

If we're talking NBA-ready SF, my favorite college SF in the draft is Luke Jackon. This guy has all the tools of a solid NBA player.

He needs to put on a little more muscle, but he's a great shooter, moves well without the ball, is fundamentally sound, has good handles, and attacks the basket...

He's got the NBA 3 in his arsenal, unlike many in this year's draft.

I propose trading Steve for T.J. Ford and the Bucks 2 picks.
Then Trade the 3 picks for a higher pick and draft a PF.
Hell, I'd draft Podkolzine and start him at PF just for defense.
2 7'5 guys in the frontcourt. And we have great speed and Athletism in Cat and Ford.

I don't think Lue is that great of a shooter, but I'd take this lineup. Has a lot of potential.

Nah, he goes clubbing too much in Barcelona. Seems like I ran into that guy like at least 3 times while I was there, hard to overlook the dude, because he is quite tall. Also, have seen him play, and he looks soft and timid.

Why do people blast Francis and then think he will get a top pick in the draft via trade? Anyway, I think the only need we can fill through the draft is the 3. Good 1s and big men are gone by the time we are going to have a chance to draft them. I really like Darious Rice with our pick. He is long and can nail the 3, described as a less athletic D. Miles with a jumper. Also, Christian Drejer sounds like a poor mans Mike Dunleavy (who I think would be perfect for us). JJ was a great pickup, but I think he would be a better 2 or backup 3.
