Putting his opening day explosion aside, he's averaged 102 yds/gm. At that pace, he's on target for 1750 (rounded). Looking at the schedule, Top Run Stopping teams: KC (#1) NYJ (#7) SD (#9) TEN (twice, #12) Worst Run Stoppers: IND (#29) PHI (#28) NYG (#24) BAL (#23) Fairly balanced looking forward. For those saying he'd have 300 yards if he started, it very well could be that he tore up the Raiders because he had a fire lit under him. Too tough to say. And Ward/Slaton ran well, I don't know that he would have chewed up that many more yards than they did. Team game, team success. I'm more than happy with the results.
I still don't know what to make of Foster; is he really as good as he has been so far. Is he a young Jim Brown and the Texans have one of the greats or is he a beneficiary of some incredible blocking or both? I'm not sure and as they say, time will tell. Early signs of "flakiness" are not encouraging. Is the guy the luckiest player in NFL history or he is really, really good. For now, he is rolling down hill; looks like he can get 200 yards every game and that is unreal. Ward and Slaton are also looking great so a big part of this has to be the blocking schemes and the all out effort of the offensive line and Leach who is corkscrewing people into the turf. The running game is legit, and as Schaub really settles down and gets in a grove with Andre back, the offense could throw up some serious points.
The line's absolutely not getting enough credit. But Foster has displayed some impressive jets, lightning fast decision making with his cuts, and fair elusiveness.
No football player can be great on his own, especially running backs. It's not a coincidence that the greatest backs of all time ran behind the greatest lines of all time. That being said, he's markedly better than any back we've ever had, so it's not like he's a slouch. He's good. Very good. I'm not sure how/if luck plays a part in it, but oftentimes it's better to be lucky than to be good.
Emjohn and Liljojo, you guys are on target; Foster is getting much deserved praise, but the line and Leach are not getting enough credit. I think we are seeing the best blocking in Texan's history. Probably have to give the coaches some credit on this one as well. Once a really good running game is in place, a team becomes hard to beat unless you can stuff the run. They will run the clock out on you.
