Why are we even discussing another country's religion or eating habits? Oh, yeah, the U.S. might invade them soon, too.
Awesome, beat me to it and much better phrased than I could have. The timing of Thanksgiving and this is perfect.
How much meat does the average American consume per year? How much meat does the average Nepel people consume per year? I bet it is not even close. I know in China in the old days farmers butcher animals at new year, but that's their only meat for the year for many families. As poor a country as Nepel, I bet the people there don't get to eat much meat at all, so what if they have a party and eat a little meat during this festival?
It shouldn't surprise you. You think sacrifices are just wasted? In the Old Testament, people were ordered to bring sheep or doves or whatever to the temple for sacrifice -- and the meat would then be eaten by the Levites. So, Jews could seek forgiveness and support the priest class at the same time.
You obviously have no idea how people in poor countries live. No one waste animal protein in those country, pretty much everything get eaten.

Seems a bit disgusting until I remember the videos I've seen of where U.S. citizens get their meat. Reminds me of why I quit eating red meat.
