Which would be horrible, but explain some of their horrible calls. I mean, come on, Stern! Let these guys retire already!

Excellent questions. I would like to hear answers from the heads-will-vole contingent.

Rocket River, I am surprised that you would volunteer to share a hotel room with Dick Bavetta and only ask for 100K. Please refrain from such posts in the future, you are scaring the children on the board..... ;)

I knew when this story broke that it wasn't going to end there.

Ask yourself this. WHEN in the history of America were the Mob and gambling was involved that the story was just a simple "isolated" incident. Sorry, not buying it.

I'm not surprised one bit to hear Donohey implicate more people.

...and if you think this story will end here, your fooling yourself.

I don't know if David Stern will get fired, but I'm pretty sure we're gonna see him doing some serious tap dancing to save his skin sooner or later. Bank on it.

We haven't heard the last of this story yet.

Sorry -- voles are one of my favorite creatures.

... and I can't quit thinking of a future NBA officiated by voles.

I hope Steve Javie is involved and gets fired.

you need to take "Casino" out of the DVD player and realize that it is 2007, not 1957.

What part of "the mob" and "this story just broke" are you missing? Last time I checked, it isn't 1957.

Would you care to place a tip-jar bet that somebody else will lose their job and/or somebody else will go to jail.

I don't think you have followed the story past the initial stages.

The reports I have read state that the "mob" connections of Donaghy's accomplices have been GREATLY exaggerated... in fact a report in the NY Daily News put it succinctly

This is not surprising to me. Do you know what the only major mob trial going on now is? It's the trial of a bunch of septugenarian bosses from the infamous Chicago "outfit", noted here:

    http://www.abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=3303950&page=1

Most of the crimes they are accused of happened 20-30 years ago. That is because the mob is not really a viable force anymore.

Not really. I don't doubt that somebody could lose their job, because the NBA bans all forms of gambling - from super bowl office pools to playing the slots. As I said earlier, that doesn't really bother me too much. But I will easily bet that nobody else will go to jail if you want.

Yea, I haven't followed it much since but my sentiment still holds.

It still involves organized gambling and it seems HIGHLY plausible that more people are involved than Donaghy. You seem to share that as you aren't willing to bet more people will lose their jobs over it.

It'll take too long to get the results of who else goes to jail since courts take years. But as a gentlemen's bet, you just remember WHEN you hear about the additional people facing jail time.

<clue phone>The FBI doesn't setup sting operations just to catch one guy.

It's not a "seem to share", rather it's true. The NBA can pretty much hire and fire officials at will - in fact, literally 'at will', because they are at will employees, to my knowledge, so it can happen whenever they want.

Again, to err on the side of caution, they might axe a few officials who play the slots (or the ponies) or whatever - but that isn't the same thing as having guys sent down the river for fixing games. I'm not going to hold my breath and wait for the FBI to roll up a huge syndicate here.
