Congrats on your new job, brah. If anything, they burnt the bridge, not you. Your boss also sounds like an oversensitive little girl. On your last day there, you should dance on your way out of the door.
Would your boss give notice to his boss before he had an offer in hand? No? I didn't think so. Sure, it sucks for him, but that's how it works. He shouldn't be giving you a guilt trip about it. Also, bridges go two ways, and he should be careful how he deals with you. I had a guy reach out to me to advocate for him for a job he was applying for in my company. I knew the hiring manager. And, I knew him from a previous company we both worked at. He outranked me by a lot. But, I thought he was dismissive and unhelpful when we worked together and I needed something from him. So, I told him I would put his resume under the nose of the hiring manager. And I did. I delivered the resume and said, "Here's a guy applying for this job. I promised I'd make sure you saw his resume. I thought he was a poor coworker and not someone I'd want to work with again." He probably would have had a better chance without my help. I've also had a former boss that was upset because I blindsided her with a resignation. I felt bad and tried to patch things up but got the cold shoulder. I think she's a very nice person and a good worker and boss. But, if someday down the road she applied to my company for a job, I'm not sure if I'd endorse her because of how she reacted to my 'betrayal.' I recently did an internal job change and I gave my boss plenty of warning that I was applying internally so he could do something to prepare. But, internal is a whole different deal. And, still he didn't do anything at all with the extra time. He waited until I told him I was going to take an offer and then scrambled to find a replacement. So, if your boss knew, what would he really have done differently? Nothing? Or laid you off instead of some other guy?
Ridiculous. Why would your boss expect you to tell him you were looking for something else? What do you think he would do with that information? Hint: he would start looking for your replacement and fire you once he found one - whether or not you had another job. 2 weeks is pretty standard in the corporate world. Any boss who complains about you not telling him you're looking for something else is.....well...an idiot. And not someone you want to work for anyway. He's just b****ing because this creates more work for him. **** him.
Damn brehs. I left my new job for another one. Why do I feel saddys? Why am I worried about my new employer not texting me for the last hour
You did the right thing man. 2 weeks is all you need. Companies will fire or lay you off in a heartbeat without any notice or remorse. In 2008-2009, i survived 4 layoffs while the CEO was building a $1M office for himself. Over that time, probably 200 people got laid off. I watched numerous friends and colleagues lose their jobs over that span of time. Did the company ever think about the employee's families? No, they didnt, they just thought about how much money goes into upper management bonuses. I learned a very very valuable lesson. YOU DO WHAT IS BEST FOR U AND YOUR FAMILY. Period.
One of my coworkers who helped start the company I work for, just left for one of our vendors and gave a 2-week notice. Our boss was upset but that is standard procedure. No one should ever feel ashamed if a better deal presents itself and you decide to take it.
You did fine; you followed S.O.P. Your boss was unprofessional about this. JuanValdez raises a good point about your boss's boss. Do not lose any sleep over this. Move on. People leaving for other opportunities is part of the cost of doing business.
I put in my two weeks notice eight business days ago. I'm on the fence about walking out tomorrow afternoon and telling them "nine days is more than enough so suck a dick" and not coming back for my last day. They didn't deserve any notice from me and I'm sorry I gave it to them.
I used to work at UPS....i was on the reload at the Mykawa location. You must have done the preload, work that shift a few times.
It's a business and it's math!! But seriously, it's at will employment. The bastiches can fire you anytime whether you're performing or not so you should not feel bad at all dumping them. Very few people stay at a job while vastly underperforming exception being McHale
