Dillion Brooks was not seen as a good defender as well in college. Listed as slow lateral quickness, hunched over as non ball defender, loses focus easily on defense, not good wingspan, etc. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Dillion-Brooks-72497/ But Dillion Brooks worked on getting thinner.....improve his lateral quickness. Johnny Juzang already has lateral quickness. Seen on offense often.
First I watch a ton of NCAA ball .... then there's any number of youtube channels and player spotlights & replays of games Really they have to pass the eyeball test and not just highlights.
EJ Onu can do everything Bassey can but better. Onu is better ball handler/passer, better shot blocker, better 3 ball shooter (40% vs. 30% from beyond arc), longer (7'6 vs. 7'3 wingspan) and better perimeter iso/ switch defender.
He only played 13 games .... you hear all kinda crap about why he left , I don't know what to believe. I kinda feel like he's a bit narcissistic but that's kinda par for the course when so many of these kids have been coddled for years. I know that from experience being a top recruit in baseball back in the way back machine. You know he left his highschool team too .... Coach K might be tough to play for but he builds winners. He's a special physical talent .... the question is what's between his ears. He could be really good .... or out of the league in short order. That's why he's not in the top 4-5 picks .... Had he played the entire season he might have been a top 3 pick.
You may be right. However, I am a little skeptical given his level of competition at Shawnee State. A guy that big and athletic should be dominating at that level.
Yes, a school in the NAIA. Schedule consisted of: Ohio Christian Grace College Life University Great Lakes Christian College Martin Methodist University of Rio Grande Cumberland University University of the Cumber University of Pikeville Cambellsville University Freed-Hardeman Lindsay Wilson College Thomas More University (spelt as More) Bethel University Lewis-Clark State College Bassey was leading the NCAA for most of the season in blocks and rebounds. Slightly better competition, imo.
You’re proving my point. Most NBA players are capable of playing defense. The question is are you willing to get in a stance slide, react, and work on that end of the floor? Physically he’ll have to get stronger as will 99% of these guys but will he work on defense? It’s a mentality more than anything.
Thanks, he might fall for these reasons. Psychological testing and interviews can be useful, but they might be cross sectional. I don't want to end up with the next Eddie Griffin. I do like his talent though, and I'm willing to give him a chance, if he wants to work hard and play with the team like Kevin Porter Jr.
"Slightly" is an understatement. I like Onu as a dark horse kind of talent, but watching his film vs NAIA competition is like watching a high school game. Bassey on the other hand performed well against some of the better D1 schools and his tape stands out more to me in that respect. Onu might be a better shooter, but until he shows it against better talent and not in a sneaker showcase exhibition I will be cautious. He didnt even own the boards in his small school and left alot to be desired as a rebounder IMO. Onu would be better served to transfer to a more notable D1 school and boost his draft stock for 2022.
http://www.tankathon.com/players/compare?players=luka-garza--jay-huff--neemias-queta Wish the Rockets can grab one of those three big men with a 24th pick/Second round/Undrafted They have sound stats. And ridiculous PER. Queta is Mr. defense. No 3 pt shot. Garza is Mr offense. Excellent 3 pt shot. Huff is in between. Good 3 pt shot.
Very good traditional centers, can only play drop coverage or zone however. I like all 3 as specialists. Especially if we can sign as UDFA.
You can use same argument comparing PAC or Mountain West with ACC or SEC or kids coming straight from HS or even overseas. Quality of competition is real concern, but NAIA (or lower) has put out legit NBA players: Steve Nash Ben Wallace Scotty Pippen Dennis Rodman Rick Mahorn World B. Free Moochie Norris Robert Reid Terry Porter Willis Reed Elgin Baylor Tiny Archibald Jack Sikma Judge the player rather than the school - other guys who played vs. crap competition include Steph Curry (Davidson), Dame Lilliard (Weber State), Kawhi Leonard (San Diego State), Paul George (Fresno State), Karl Malone (Louisiana Tech), Larry Bird (Indiana State), Robert Parrish (Centenary), David Robinson (Navy), George Gervin (Eastern Michigan), John Stockton (Gonzaga),Robert Covington (Tennessee State), Courtney Lee (Western Kentucky), Richaun Holmes (Bowling Green), Patty Mills (St. Mary's), George Hill (UIPUI), Hassan Whiteside (Marshall), CJ McCollum (LeHigh), Torrey Craig (South Carolina Upstate). NCAA but still lousy conferences.
All that production, pedigree (school) and athleticism yet he is a borderline first round pick? Hmmmm
Bassey? He was scored a 91 by NBA Draft.net I agree with all their scoring except quickness. He was given a 6. But I argue that was off of year one when he was very slow and mechanical. He made progress in that department each season. I would give him a 7 in that area. Bringing his score up to 92. Anything 90 or above is first round material. Some mock drafts had Bassey going as early as 12th before the NCAA tournament. Has fallen not because of attitude or anything. More like because he wasn't in the tournament. Not the flavor of the month, right now. I'm not going to penalize him because other teams have their muscle big(s).....Rockets don't have one.
cont'd from post #195 John Lucas has worked with him in the past. LucasLab video found with Bassey profile on NBA Draft.net Wasn't sure if it was associated with John Lucas; but one of the 4 videos there shows Bassey in the John Lucas invitational 2015.
Garza has feet of clay. I don't want to pick him at any cost. Queta lacks lateral quickness as you have correctly observed, but he is quite athletic and his defense is pretty good. I haven't seen Huff play, so I can't say anything about him.
How many "big muscle" centers are making an impact in playoffs? Skilled bigs are much more successful.
