Letting your child play on a 50ft balcony = letting your kid climb a powerline pole = letting your kid play with the chemicals under the sink = unfortunate yes but = = = = bad parenting

Its irresponsible that I said R.I.P to the child and then blamed irresponsible parenting?

The parents are irresponsible. Why? You shouldn't let your kids take pictures at an angle where they are in danger of falling. How does a kid fall if he's safe from falling?

The kid was most likely on the edge of the suite when he fell, and that's not that most parents would allow. At least hold your kids if they are taking pictures at large heights.

But a sad story indeed. I doubt they will sue though. I'm guessing they're already rich if they are able to afford suites.

Railings are pretty low, but some common sense would apply here.

    Tragic news...

That Simpsons PSA did the nation a great service.

    Tragic event. RIP.

I always thought that the rails at TC were also kind of low in the upper deck.

That's terrible. Very sad. We don't know the circumstances under which this happened, so it's hard to say that it was irresponsible. It could be that he just darted into a suite after the game had ended and the parents were chasing after him but were too late. If they were in the luxury suite the whole time and just didn't pay attention, then I'd say it was irresponsible parenting. In either case it's a tragedy for the boy and I'm sure the parents will never get over it.

They said he was taking pictures on the railing. Then tipped over. Kid is too young to know any better, parents should have excercised some caution...

Bad parenting, someone should of been closer to this child as the pictures were being taken.

Ugh, poor little guy. As a parent of a boy that age, that is horrifying.

As any of with kids know, they can get away from you for a half-second - sometimes a 'mistake' is bad luck - someone cuts you off, they run off, get confused, you sneeze or whatever... Just awful. I can not imagine what they are going through, that is an unbelievable nightmare. Ugh.

How can some of you people judge so harshly based on what? You weren't there...you dont know what happened. Until you know what happened, STFU.. I have a 1 1/2 year old boy and a second or two they can disappear like that...people who judge like that are just ignorant. That said, you can't say the parents are not irresponsible either.

I've been to Staples Center several times and the railing is so low it might as well not even be there. That's to let you watch the event, of course. Very tragic. People definitely should not let their kids dawdle around ledges.

A responsible parent would have had the kid on one of these:

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A police investigation was under way Monday in the death of a toddler who plunged from a third-level luxury box at Staples Center after a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game.

The fall occurred Sunday as 2-year-old Lucas Anthony Tang was taking pictures with his family in a skybox with a glass safety barrier that varies in height but is at least several feet high, police Officer Julie Sohn said.

"Somehow the child went over the edge of the section and fell to the seating below,'' Sohn said.

Fire officials said boy fell 25 to 50 feet.

The case was being handled by the Police Department juvenile division, which investigates deaths of young children and other crimes involving juveniles.

"It's procedural,'' Sohn said of the probe involving Tang, declining to elaborate or discuss possible causes of the fall.

The Garden Grove boy suffered severe head trauma, Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said. However, an official cause of death had not yet been determined.

Witnesses said the boy was moving his arms, legs and head when paramedics put him in an ambulance, said Michael Roth, vice president of communications for Staples Center and owner AEG. The child later died at a hospital.

"Our condolences and prayers go to the Tang family. We are working with the Los Angeles Police Department on the investigation of this tragedy,'' Roth added in a short prepared statement.

Tang fell several minutes after the Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors. There was no immediate word on whether the death would affect the Staples schedule, which included a Monday night game between the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Hornets.
