No reason for OT on the first game of the season, on the road, before the 2nd game of a back to back... Go for the win.

    Hold on a sec.

So we ran the play perfectly, and your proclaimed "closer" in Aaron Brooks missed the game tying layup by a slight mis-position?

If your proclaimed closer can't even position himself right to make a wide open layup, I have my doubts in future games.

And for the record, Blake was on Aaron Brooks the whole time. Brooks was forced deep down into the basket (If the ball was passed any earlier it would've been stolen). He wasn't "wide open", I have no idea what game you were watching.

    Yeah flaming rookie !

That is exactly what I am saying, AB messed up, he should have cut a little bit earlier.

If we could only replace human beings with robots that act perfectly it would be all better.

BTW - Kobe ****ED up and dribbled off his hip and it went to Gasol and he hit the go ahead shot before the Blake shot.

    Woooopss....

Oh and Kobe ****ED up and missed Gasol on the PnR and it went right to Blake.

    Wooops....

    Sometimes, luck is a factor....

I hope your head doesn't explode as you process actual basketball knowledge, but try not to get all butt hurt as you are proven to lack an understanding of the game, YET AGAIN !

And stop following me around you little lost puppy you are picking fights you can't win.

No defender between him and the basket. Wide open.

The pass was intended for Blake. It went right into his shooting pocket.

If it were indeed meant for Gasol, that would mean that Kobe threw it way off target and much too hard.

I just watched it over and over and that is debatable, Blake is moving, and Gasol is reaching, it looks like Kobe is going at Gasol and just passed it a bit too high.

    AFRICKEN MEN !

LOOK AT THAT MFING awesome play design.....where are all the MORANS at now?

Wow, that looks bad. But he might not have been able to go up with the ball right away. Maybe he was off balance or something.

He is still going towards the baseline, he got himself a bit too deep, if he cut a bit more shallow he gets a wide open layup.

Yeah, looking at that picture, it looks like he should have taken a straight layup instead of a reverse. The extra dribble gave Odom the time to come in for the block.

I have said it many many times. They should design a play for Budinger for a last second shot. Let Miller inbound. Put the best 3pt shooters in Brooks, Martin, and Budinger. Let Scola set a pick for Budinger, either for a catch and shoot or an alley oop.

Luck plays into a factor, no one denies that.

Why don't you go watch the replay again? Kobe intended to pass the ball to Blake. Gasol thought the pass was for him. If you look at the angle the ball was way too high to be intended for Gasol, and what a coincidence that it went straight to Blake? Or was it just luck again.

Maybe if you weren't so butthurt and realize that your "basketball knowledge" is not as great as you thought it was, I wouldn't need to reply to your childish responses.

    And for the record

Brooks hasn't dribbled once, and Blake is right next to him. This isn't a wide open layup once he had control of the ball and himself. He could've gone for a layup but Blake had a good chance of contesting it.

You still haven't explained to me why you think a "closer" is a myth yet you're the first to call Brooks our closer. If Brooks was our closer and he couldn't even make a wide open layup, something is wrong.

    Wait what?

Blake can contest it? From where? Behind him?

AB could not get it up, his momentum was carrying him under the glass, just as I said.....if he cuts it more shallow it is a bunny layup, the play worked, it was poorly executed.

On the Kobe pass to Blake, it is debatable, he looks to me like he is going to Pau and he just made a bad pass, but I will concede that he might have been going to Blake instead.

I will give you kudos for the screen cap though, that is pretty nicely done.

Now, I am done with you since you constantly follow me around like a lost puppy and pick innane fights.....I will acknowledge you again when you are not a rookie.

It's purely situational. You go with what's available, not blindly charge towards the coach's call, even if the opponent defends it perfectly. What's available is determined by the person inbounding the ball. Thus, that is my choice.

I'm not the one picking fights if you haven't realized. You're the one too childish to respond without name calling.

And Blake was not behind him, he was beside him.

Once again, this is the exact point where Brooks had complete control of the ball. He was right underneath the backboard, and he would have to jump into Blake to take the layup. He won't draw a foul, and we all know that, but he could be blocked.

I said Brooks and martin last night. I stick by that. Brooks might have been able to make something happen had his decision turned out better and Martin probably wasnt open. Battier had to pass it in bounds and Brooks didnt have a great angle or reaction.

This play isn't designed for Brooks to dribble. Once you dribble, you give defenders the opportunity recover. And actually, it is a wide open layup. Blake is behind Brooks, and if Brooks just flips the ball off the glass (which we've all seen him do many times), Blake has no chance of contesting it.

From the distance of that picture, you can see Brooks is several feet away from the basket (about a foot away from the paint). He would've been taking a fairly off balance layup had he gone straight up (shooting it would be more accurate than a layup attempt from where he caught the ball). Not to mention, Brooks did not have full control of the ball, and that would make his lay up attempt even more inaccurate.

I'll agree that Blake had no chance of contesting the ball if Brooks did go straight up, but there was two 2 seconds left on the clock, and he had to make the decision between making a difficult lay up attempt from a distance or making one dribble for a more accurate lay up attempt. For a player his size it makes sense if he had to get closer, since I doubt he could flip the ball off the glass with good accuracy from that distance.
