Well thought out on your part. Less pressure can certainly help him. I still think, no one will want him though.
The reason you trade Anderson for Melo: 1. Save the MLE for another player. A better defender type. 2. Melo expires next summer creating flexibility and less luxury tax versus keeping Ryan. 3. In my proposed trade Thunder provide the other first round pick therefore we don't spend 2 first round picks to dump Ryno which is likely what it will cost.
They could do... SAC IN: Ryno, Onuaku and a 1st HOU IN: Shumpert and Randolph I doubt Sacramento takes that though. They’re probably looking to move Shumpert at the deadline for a pick.
1. MLE for who? There is no one out there. It's more likely you get better contribution out of Ryno than the trash out there. 2. Ryno's expiring contract does more for our flexibility to acquire players. We are over the cap no matter what. 3. The cost of dumping Ryno is high right now because teams don't have cap space. It's not worth dumping even one first round pick to get rid of him now given how much easier it will be next year.
Just saying…. IF this deal between MEM & SAC is going down…. Rockets could jump on thusly (and carve a quicker path for Melo out of OKC) Scenario 1 Sacramento: Dennis Schroder (ATL) + Ryan Anderson (HOU) + Ben McLemore (MEM) + Deyonta Davis (MEM) + HOU 2019 1st + HOU 2020 2nd + MEM 2021 2nd + rights to Llull & Gentille (HOU) Memphis: Garrett Temple (SAC) + Chinanu Onuau (HOU) Houston: Kent Bazemore (ATL) + Dewayne Dedmon (ATL) Atlanta: Willie Cauley-Stein (SAC) + Iman Shumpert (SAC) + HOU 2021 1st (top 15 protected) + HOU 2022 2nd This would also allow Hawks to have enough cap space to take on Melo’s contract for an OKC 2022 1st + OKC 2021 2nd in exchange for rights to Marcus Eriksson. Scenario 2 (make OKC stretch Melo - have to wait until end of August) Sacramento: Ryan Anderson (HOU) + Ben McLemore (MEM) + Deyonta Davis (MEM) + HOU 2019 1st + HOU 2020 2nd + MEM 2021 2nd + rights to Llull & Gentille (HOU) Memphis: Garrett Temple (SAC) + Chinanu Onuau (HOU) + HOU 2021 2nd Houston: JaMychal Green (MEM) + $12M TPE (can be used later for Kyle Korver, Courtney Lee, Alec Burks, Moe Harkless, etc. – somebody looking to dump salary) IIRC @Codman said Green was somebody Rox might be interested in Anyway.... just some random thoughts (maybe belongs in another thread)
If there were a player out there still worthy of the MLE I could be convinced. Now it doesn't matter. The only argument I see is that by paying 1 pick to move him for Melo it saves us the extra capital. Honestly though I wouldn't do it. Eventually we are going to pay to move Ryno and that huge contract will be what facilitates a high salary player coming here. People keep ignoring this, but just DUMPING Ryno means this team will never add anyone other than taxpayer MLE and minimum guys to this team again during the Harden/Paul era.
This. And with most scenarios, all moving Ryno does is save on luxury tax. Doesn't help us with our flexibility at all. Why is everyone so obsessed with saving Tilman money?
but dumping ryno saves the owner a ton of lux tax, which is why i believe this will be the most likely move made
Dumping him into straight up salary space is fine. That generates a TPE. Trading him for Melo is terrible for us. It actually gives OKC the asset (a TPE) and it also means we'd probably have to pay Melo more than the mLE next year. Just all around bad. Being willing to throw Capela away to facilitate this is even crazier.
ya i definitely don't see them trading for melo and his $27M, they wanna shed salary not take on more. i also think they actually want capela to take that QO and get him cheap for a year.
