For those that said we lowballed him this proves that was straight up BS. This is a damn good deal and I think he will take it eventually. His sad note was obviously he took this terrific offer to the Lakers and anyone else who would listen and they told him that's more than they would offer and knew at that close the Rockets would match anything. Literally, at this price, if he threatened to walk next year by taking the QO he would not make any more money if he essentially got a max deal. This is all posturing and will be resolved. He is not getting a better deal than this and if he signs the QO he and his agents are stupid and cost him a lot of money.
Was just wondering, what if we're actually saving the MLE for the buyout market? A lot of veterans are on expiring contract this season, assuming we use 800k of it to sign Melton, that would leaves us around 4.6M to play with, 2.3M (plus Texas taxes) for two bought out players will at least give us a small edge over the other contenders, at least for players with not a lot of years of service. At this point i expect the Rockets to use the MLE on Melo but still...
That hasn't worked out well for us in the past. It's also a gamble. You aren't in control of the situation, you cross your fingers and hope the cards fall.
I’ve been thinking this as well. I’ve been thinking that the rockets just may not use the mle except on Melton and maybe an undrafted guy. I think this becomes more apparent with not using it on Luc. Sure, it’s possible we use it on melo but why? He will already be getting paid near max so I expect the minimum if we obtain him. I think it’s all vet min guys, and that’s smart because this is a dry market. No need to offer more so may as we’ll save the luxury tax payment some.
At his learning rate, wouldn't surprise me if he's shooting 40 percent from 3 in one or two years time. He's still growing into his body and didn't start playing basketball at the age most NBA players start. I can't doubt what Capela can do.
My guess is Ennis is somewhat of a "proven" commodity. Does this mean the Ennis chapter begins for the Houston Rockets?
He is more than Nunnally but Ennis has never played more than 25 mpg in a season besides a really short stint with the Pelicans that lasted 9 games. The Rockets still need another wing.
