BKN can't give much money and I think they want to save capspace for next season. (Kyrie destination).
Right now the move is irrelevant to me until he gets a lot more help. As of now that roster is still not cutting it in the West, maybe a 6-8th seed based off present roster. It should also be concerning to Lakers fans that this was not a “winning basketball”. Previous two decisions Bron was greatly influenced by already rostered veteran all stars and both times had a 3rd LBJ-approved Vet all stars join, he also had his hand in choosing the role players he wanted. Should concern Lakers fans that the Their roster, however they assemble it, did not matter to LBJand was joining anyway. He micromanaged his last two team rosters, made demands, but not this time? Basketball and winning are not his top priority at this stage of his life. Looks like he’s getting into acting and different non basketball endeavors. A different LBJ that we haven’t seen.
They are trying to maintain the ability to offer Kawhi or another player a max contract next offseason.
I wouldn’t mind renting him for a year. We would lose Gordon but we would definitely win the championship and it will all be worth it.
I think it's very important for us to resign Clint to a good deal, if we can do that he automatically becomes a great asset, Capela on a good deal, Gordon and picks...that's a package which can land you a star imo. I think the Spurs would be intrigued by a similar package with maybe other sweeteners like Llull, Hartenstein, 2nd rounders...obviously it depends on what other teams are willing to offer and even more by how much are you willing to risk with Kawhi.
No, I get that, but when you are playing the "long game" with a 34 year old basketball player, it's really stupid. He's got only a few dominant seasons left in him and you have him on a team surrounded by worse players than he had last year in Cleveland only now he's in the West....and the team is going to be picked apart all year by the media because they are in LA.
