I get the Capela getting paid too much. We don't know that yet and it would be a bad contract but we can't dictate that anymore and our roster is going to be locked so it won't matter. We can't replace him or take that step back. This is a homegrown all-star with more upside. We don't have years of the roster to waste. If we got him at $12-$14 excellent. $20M unhappy but close to what we would have paid. Full max vomit. A player of his type fits our team and legitimately his only replacement is Deandre Jordan. That is still taking a step back in my opinion but the problem is we cannot trade Capela's contract for him for the same reasons we don't want to pay him the max. The Suns article has been around for a while now. If they draft Ayton, I think their desire for Capela max will disappear. I think teams with cap space are going to spend on other players and will be less willing to tie their money up in Capela for the same reasons and knowing we will match. That is likely to drive down whatever offer he does get. Getting him for around half cost would be important for future tax concerns so I know Marley has his fingers crossed but he is prepared either way.
I just wonder how that LeBron-in-Rockets-Red sign for the front of the Toyota Center is coming along. #RunAsBigThree #SteamrollGoldenState #DashTheDynasty #LegendAtWork #GOATLegacyBeingBuilt
I'm thinking there's a real chance (30%) that Carmelo might opt out. I'm really wondering if he, Paul and Lebron will hook up and make this happen. Lebron does the opt-in and trade and then Melo signs here for the taxpayer MLE. I worry how that could work, but reading some of his comments about his future I'm not 100% anymore that he's opting in.
chris bosh just said on the herd he thinks bron comes here... said “it would be like an Avengers movie”
quick decision is almost necessary. With Capela being a RFA, Rockets have 3 days(?) to match once another offer is accepted.
Any chance we can steal Millsap from Denver if we strike out on LeBron and PG13? I know Faried is available and i still like him and his energy and expiring contract, but Millsap like Horford a couple years ago would be a perfect fit even at 30mil until 2020.
why millsap when hou already has tucker locked in for a few more years and millsap is definitely not worth the $30 mil per hes getting
$30,000,000 a season + often injured for Millsap. Faried would be an overpaid version of Montriezl Harrell. Can't shoot threes so D'Antoni wouldn't play him anyway.
Tucker isn't even 15% of the player Millsap is. Millsap's routinely been a career 20 PER player both in the regular season and playoffs at low 30 mpg. Can stretch the floor(i know the % isn't that great but he'd get wide open looks like never before with the Rockets). Can pass. Can handle decently for a PF and plays great and very underrated D. Millsap had one injury plagued season this season only. He's usually able to give his teams 70+ games a season. More than you can say for CP3.
doesn't matter the % of what you think he is compared to millsap. regardless of that Millsap wouldn't even spread the floor as well as tucker and at the stretch 4 position its absolutely vital to have a floor spacer there at that position and defensively he obviously isn't as good. the wide open looks wouldn't matter. millsap can only shoot 3s when hes left all alone anyway and even then his makes/attempts isn't good enough to be a factor at this point millsap is a horrible fit on this team based on the personnel hou has in place. you really just tried to compare him to cp3. there is none there. millsap will never have the impact on the game that cp3 does.
Faried is done. He is an awful defender and has no range. Not a modern big. Millsap would be great in a vacuum but unless we can swap Anderson and picks for him I wouldn't give up player assets.
I get what you're saying, and Wiggins is obviously better than Anderson but man, 30M for the next 5 years...i'd take Anderson and his shitty contract for two years in pretty much any scenario i think.
I'd be fine with Millsap (i'm a fan of the player) as a last option at this point. Like Yolo says we don't have that need to have him with PJ here, but personally, i would love to swap Anderson and Nene for him if we can't do better with that salary, with him we would have a legit offensive option in the front court (post game, passing) which can also play the 5 in a small lineup. Yeah, he's making 30M per year which is a lot, but there's a team option after the next season so...we would still be able to let him go or resign him to a way better deal. As for Faried i personally say no, can't shoot, can play defense and so can't play the 5. He would basically be another Ryan Anderson, you wouldn't be able to play him at some point cause they would leave him wide open and on the other end of the court he wouldn't protect the paint.
