I don't claim to know Patterson like Feigen, but Patterson is a better offensive rebounder as compared to on defense.

Patrick admitted that his defensive rebounding numbers went down to Givony on Draft Express. Landry might be a better offensive rebounder than Patrick, but I don't know if that is correct or not.

You could argue changes, but that is because 2 out of 3 on your list are scrubs. And Horry was decent; not good, not great. One could even argue lucky.

Gasol and, to a lesser extent Bynum, are not scrubs; their frontline roster won't change barring some major reason.

Yes, but the ones who do "fall out of trees" are in the NBA.

I'm not saying Patterson sucks, just that this first year (as it is with almost every rookie) will be a definite learning process in defending good PFs.

Is Duncan still playing PF now a day's? - Last year I think they had him at Center.
    ...

I think the problem with Patterson "undersize" perception, is that when people think of him, they think of Landry 6'8 and short reach(8'6), while the truth is that Patterson is closer to 6'10 with good reach at 9'0...

Here's a picture of him standing next to Cousins (6'11 | 7'6 wingspan)

He seem's closer to 6'10 in the pic...

Same. Everything I've read so far about PP is that he has a high motor + able to hit the open jumpshot, which makes him a perfect "role" player like Scola. If PP is able to give Scola-like production by his 2nd year (with more athleticism but less crafty post moves) I'll be ecstatic.

Thanks for posting the pic. I think it's a good illustration of how some folks have taken an extreme view by considering Patterson a below average PF with respect to size.

He's got good height and great length/size and is an awesome addition to our team.

I've never understood that... why really gifted athletes, particularly Francis and McGrady, would so often "walk the ball" up the court, with almost a lackadaisical attitude. It gives the other team a chance to go into a defensive set. It gives those guarding you a chance to catch their breath and think. As often as I've read here how badly we need to get longer, taller, and more athletic, comments I have made myself, having an astute knowledge of the game, some serious skills, and a motor that never quits are more valuable. Yet teams are constantly looking for that combination of both, taking big risks that frequently don't pay off (Eddie Griffin, Slowmile Swift ring a bell?), when they would have had more success hitting doubles and triples with guys like Patterson and Scola. Chasing the home run is too often an exercise in futility.

You've hit the nail on the head. I'll be shocked if they move him before those two.

    LOL! :)

Yeah... the "high motor" part intrigues me. We havn't really had a legit big guy that can run the floor well. Scola can but he doesn't have that athleticism to really kill someone in the fast break. Also, it would be nice to have a big guy off the bench that can play defense that isn't a liability on the offensive end like Hayes is.

If he's being matched up against Duncan/Garnett/Nowitzki, then he must be beast for Adelman to matching against those guys for the game. I'll be surprised, if Scola is on the bench. It would be a joy to see how Patterson develops over 2-3 years. I expect Scola to start and get most of the minutes, though.

i'm excited to have PP here to push jordan hill in practices.

these two young forwards could help us solidify our front court.

Agreed. This is a late post, but I think people need to stop saying PP is undersized. Harris is undersized. Hayes is undersized. Patterson is not. He has good length for a PF and I cannot wait to see this guy in Rockets red.

He reminds me of Al Horford, not too flashy, but a solid, solid basketball player. I believe the front office's ravings about Patterson are truly real.

I had that problem when i started. Just give it some time.
As far as Patterson goes, to me he seems like an Artest/Battier clone.

great pick. so impressed with morey. doing all the right things, putting us in great position.

to me, by december our lineup should look like this

    brooks/lowry
    martin/chase/taylor
    battier/ariza/taylor
    scola/patterson/hayes
    yao/hill/hayes

    great 12 man rotation.

Also I have no interest in reading all 29+ pages of this thread but has anyone made the point that this is similar to when we drafted brooks when we had 2 pg's already? Give it time for everything to play out.
