    exactly.

You're now allowed to have another defender basically linger around Yao while his other defender stations in the paint, whereas in the old days, if you had everybody else around the 3 point line, it would be pretty obvious when defenders were lingering not guarding anybody.

Spacing was much easier back then... and its pretty helter-skelter now, unless you have playmakers like Nash, Kobe (or most of the time T-mac) who can break down hybrid zone defenses with ease.

    Dream was a beast!!!!

Anyone see him catch the ball late in 4th quarter and throw it down with authority on half the Jazz team??

How about the Dream fade-away off the top of the backboard?? Malone's jaw just dropped after that shot. He seemed deflated.... Elie looked ecstatic.

David Benoit is one of my All-Time favourite Non-Rocket player.

Well they run an offesnse with a lot of off the ball movement and weakside cuts that make teams pay for paying too much attention to Duncan. See: Denver.

    We...spot up for threes.

Please... Duncan spends A LOT of his time on the wing, where he faces up his man for the iso (and then the bank-shot). He also spends plenty of time at the top of the key. When he is in the low post, he gets doubled... he definitely has to work for it as well.

Nobody will ever get to run an offense like the 90's offense ran through Hakeem... he got the ball 96% of every possesion he was in the game... and if you doubled him, he kicked it out.

The only time he had trouble was with Seattle... and they were using the illegal defense that is now legal.

Did you watch the Lakers or Heat post 2001 when the rule changes were made? It didnt change the way they fed O'Neal one iota. Duncan is very versatile but when the Spurs want to feed the post they have no trouble doing so. Zero. Sure, he's doubled team after the catch, every good post player is.

You can't play zone for extended periods of time in the NBA because of the quality of 3 point shooting in the league. If there was any merit to your theory, Duncan and Shaq would have seen their games decline significantly after the rule changes in 2001. It didnt happen. Guys dont run the Hakeem offense because big men today want to be the next Dirk and shoot 3's and 20 footers, not bang in the post.

If the Rockets didnt have Tmac, we'd basically be running a 90's style offense with Hakeem but since Yao is the 2nd best player on the team, not the first, we dont.

Hakeem was doubled far more than Yao Ming was. Just look at this series with the Jazz. The Jazz have played Yao with single coverage the entire series. They have not used the fronting tactic you describe with one defender fronting Yao and one doubling him without the ball weakside. They have not even done this on one occasion the first 5 games. And the Rockets have still had trouble feeding the post to Yao.

It's about time some of the Yao fans concede that the troubles getting him the ball and the troubles getting him to dominate when it counts have to do with his inability to seal his man and give the feeder quality passing angles and his lack of a committment to fight for position.

Yao would have trouble in any era of basketball getting the ball in the post because he does not seal his man like post players are taught to do (see how Duncan does it, it's classic) and he's rather slow which allows defenders to get around him and strip the ball or steal it before he can secure it.

That is definitely true but when they want to get Duncan the ball in the post, they have zero trouble getting it to him.

Part of it is on Yao for not making the post feeder's job easy. Part of it is the personnel. When you have a Hayes and/or Alston on the court, it's a lot more tempting for teams to double your big without the ball. However, besides Phoenix, no team really does this as their base D on Yao. It's only typically done to mix things up. Utah hasn't tried this once in 5 games against Yao and he's shooting 40% from the field.

Yao has to step it up for this team to win this series and make a deep playoff run. Let's stop with the excuses about rules which dont affect the true post superstars like Duncan and Shaq. Yao has the ability physically to be right up there with these guys but he's been very mentally soft as a playoff performer and that needs to change for any sort of title chances to return to Htown.

Dream may kick out, but he might be on a roll and just take on the double team himself. either fadeaways or spin moves or face up jumpers. They showed that Sonics vs Rockets OT game (Sonics win) on ESPN Classics often and Dream gets quadruple teamed and he still scores on them.

Dream would dominate in todays game cause his quickness and overall skill is FAR BEYOND ANY CENTER PLAYING TODAY.

It's not that we don't have the personnel. The guy is 7'6 and the ball is being thrown to him, at times, below his chest. Pass the ball higher to where he's the only one who can go get it. This will force the defender to jump over his back and then maybe the refs will start calling the fouls.

I still have all those games on VHS and of all the playoff games in 94 and 95, this is the one I watch the most.

Both Dream and Clyde pour in 40+ points.

    It was beautiful.

duncan and oneal really didn't get doubled before they caught the ball because they had a better cast that could actually creat their own shots. they usually got doubled after they caught it or started to dribble.

yao really hasn't had problems in the post, imo, unless its on the passer, ie bounce pass, a low pass, or passing it to the wrong hand. The problem yao has had is his shooting. because of the physicality of the jazz, our shots aren't going to be as crisp as they can be.

Yao has had trouble in the post all series. 40% shooting in the playoffs will not cut it for a guard, much less a Center. That's simply abysmal.

Yao's problems in the post are his lack of post fundamentals. He does not seal his man off to help the post passer. He does not battle for position when pushed out, even by a guy like Okur who's never been known as a brute.

And he refuses to make decisive moves, instead waiting and waiting to make a move. One of the biggest fundamentals of post play is that when you first recieve the ball is the best time to make a move because you have the guy on his heels. He's allowing Okur to dictate the tone defensively everygame.

It's not on anyone but #11. Not the rules, not the supporting cast. Fight for position, seal your man, and make assertive moves and this series would have been over already and you'd be shooting a much higher %.

That's why I thought that AK47, despite being in a slump, can play a huge roll for the Jazz (before the series began).

He is still one of the best help defenders in the game. No doubt, every time Yao is making a move, he has AK47 on his mind.

Reminds me of the 90s games against suns when OT would guard Charles. Charles had openly said that even if he were to make a move against OT, Dream was waiting for him.

Similarly, AK47 is in Yao's head.
