i actually met OT and I thanked him for the championship. he really appreciated me telling him that. He was very proud of the championship.
I told him that I'd take him NOW over JUWAN! and he laughed!

oh OT's hands were like transformer big.

I voted for Maxwell, but twelve years later and after the fallout Maxwell had( basically him quitting on the team), I would have to say Super Mario!!!

Sam was a ton of fun to watch. He got me excited every time he set foot on the floor because he always looked pumped and was really into the game.

    For that he's my fav.

But in terms of pure skill and basketball sense, Otis Thorpe was THE MAN.

hey Mario had angry words for the Rockets too, remember the Damon Stodolmire trade that never went through?

I would say Maxwell's marriage with the Rockets was good before the divorce, they produced a beautiful baby...

the baby's named was NBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

    Two part answer for me...

My favorite players (other than Dream) are Scottie and Mario in that order, mostly because my playing style was sort of a combo of the two (not saying I could shoot that well ;)).

But my favorite person, INCLUDING Dream is O.T. - The man is NOTHING BUT CLASS. I had the pleasure of speaking to him briefly during last Feb's All Star activities and he's still the classiest Rocket I've ever met. Clyde runs a close second.

I told O.T. I thought he could STILL be our staring 4, and he just smiled and thanked me for the compliment. Gorgeous wife the guy has as well.

Oh, and for the young man who lamented the fact that we couldn't get OT before '96.... Dude, he was instrumental in the first Rox championship, and was here well before that!!

    Just sayin....

I voted for Sam I Am. Rooted for him in Minnesota and hated the 'Wolves for getting rid of him (and glowed when the 'Wolves clapsed last season without Sam).

Now, Clippers is the team (after Rockets of course) I follow just because of Sam.

    Earl Cureton...

Really OT-consistent rebounder and inside scorer. OT was under rated as a defender. When we traded him for Clyde, Mr. Charles Barkley of Phoenix questioned who we had who could guard him. He respected OT.

I really liked Sam Cassell too.

Kenny Smith had 13 votes????? He would show up every 10 game or so...Way over rated...IMO

Nah, he broke the Larry O'Brien trophy. How about some love for Eric Riley, the heir apparent to Dream? :)

Have to go with Thorpe. Just a steady, rock-solid performer night in night out. Durable, played with injury though you'd never know it. Taped fingers, All-Star dunk assisted by Hakeem :)

Cassell a close 2nd. Energy, personality, loved playing the game, maybe the only one that could be called a high potential prospect instead of the mostly finished products they had on the team (and probably the only one past Hakeem with marketability). I tried to like Maxwell more, just couldn't come around to accepting those low% off balanced 3 point jacks he throw up there. When he'd start hitting he'd usually be more set and he had a beautiful outside J when he did. And it'd always tick me off that he'd never keep himself set and go back to the Mad Max specials. He'd be the last guy I want being a volume shooter but hell it worked so whatever now

Otis Thorpe. He made the game so much easier for Hakeem...

I voted for OT, but a special nod has to go to Mad Max. Those two were the best specialists on the team.

Exactly how I feel too. Otis Thorpe was so critical in our success that year, easily one of the more underrated players that I can think of.

But I just loved Sam's energy. Even when he was on the bench, he couldn't stop running around lol... His play on the court wasn't that bad either.
