Ok, for those of you who says she broke the law, a couple of thoughts...

Why didn't the manager just tell her to stop or, at worst, ask her to leave? I'm sure the cops in Arlington, VA have nothing better to do than bust movie goers.

Also, I guess NONE of you download songs illegally ever, correct? If you got busted for downloading a portion of a song and they arrested you with the potential of a fine and jail time, would you consider that excessive?

It's the zero tolerance thing that is a serious issue here. There have been threads on here defending illegal downloading, bootlegging movies, doing drugs, driving while intoxicated...how is it that suddenly you've all decided that a 20-second movie clip is grounds for being arrested in a theater?

Next time any of you get busted for anything, don't expect any sympathy.

I can't help but wonder if WaPo would do a similar story with a photo of an "unattractive," say, male.

I don't have problem with the law. It's the enforcement that bothers me.

I saw transformers on a pirated cd btw, believe me they missed out on money, no way I would pay to see that.

I'm not trying to be holier-than-thou, and even said explicitly that if I get busted for something, even if it's trivial, it's still my fault for knowingly doing it anyway.

I downloaded plenty of stuff between '98 and '01, and if they nailed me, it'd be my own fault.
I drive over the limit any time I'm in my car. If a cop decides to be a dick and hit me with a ticket for going 2-3 over, it's still my fault.
Seeing as this is a single example, and not a Arlington crackdown leading to dozens of arrests, I think you're overstating the case. That said, VA cops are militant SOBs.

Hehe, I guess the same question can be asked in that "Catch A Predator" thing.

she got what she deserved imo...

there are plenty of trailers, heck even in HD that her brother could have seen to hype himself up over the movie.

a 20 sec clip of what though? i mean would she film something at the end where it would give the story away? or just something you would see in a trailer.

plus common sense has to take over here i mean a video camera in a theater. when i went to the first showing of matrix reloaded there were some girls filming the entire "pre-party" the entire theater was just kicking back, beach balls and all it was just a bunch of us college kids no one else and almost everyone knew each other. sure enough ushers came in and escorted them out and all i heard was "what did i do wrong i was just filming"

now the sentence is harsh i do think, it would suck if she becomes one of those "example" cases i do hope they lower it. at the same time was it only 20 secs because she got caught? what if he plan was to record the whole thing to show to her little bro (maybe he wasnt allowed to see the movie?) no one will really know what her true intentions were.

    oh yeah I'D HIT IT!

Actually I'm just mocking her excuse. trailers are there for a reason, plus they are MUCH better quality than a handheld camera.

    My honest opinion.

The punishment is excessive. However, I can't see how she wasn't fully aware that what she was doing was illegial. If you are fully aware that you are doing wrong and choose to take the chance that you won't get caught then I don't have much sympathy for you...as far as getting caught. Again, I think the punishment is excessive.

It's kind of like me going 3 miles over the speed limit in a school zone when I'm the only car on the street, or running a red light when it's 2 am and I've looked around and no other cars are coming. It's reasonable why I did both things but I know that both things are against the law...so if caught I gotta pay up.

I expect her to get off with a lighter sentence, but I don't feel like she is a victim. She was an adult taping a new movie with a camera....who doesn't know that is wrong? They even have movie employees give you a warning before the show, tell you the cop will be there watching the crowd, suggest that you don't touch your cell phone so the cops won't mistake you for someone filming the movie, etc. All that, and she decided to pull out a camera and film it? Come on now........

Edit: Actually, I think they should add more years to her sentence because pulling out a camera during a new movie is just plain stupid. I'm obviously joking, but that is seriously as dumb as it gets. I could see if it was a cellie. That's like me going door-to-door selling Final Call subscriptions in Vidor.

The punishment is harsh, no doubt. But in this day and age, you should know better than to pull out a camera in the middle of a movie. Uhm....hello? Can you BE more obvious?

And frankly, I can't believe this thread is 2 pages and there hasn't even been a Seinfeld reference.

Maybe the manager or police weren't aware of how long she was filming. If I walk in a theater midway through and see someone w/ a camera, I'd probably assume she was filming since the start. So they arrest her, examine the tape, and realize she might be telling the truth (that she started filming around the climax). Perhaps if they knew this at the beginning they might have just asked her to leave before it steamrolled into this case.

A 20-sec film clip, a piracy? and it was just a still-cam, clearly no intention in selling it for profit.

Confiscating the camera is too much, she just deserved to be removed frm teh movie theater afer confiscating the memory card. That's it.

i dont download songs, but if i do something wrong...like lets say i got busted for pot back in my smoking days...i know what i was doing i could get in trouble for, even if it was for just a dime sack. Well im not going to cry because i got caught with just a little. Regardless of how trivial it is i still know i can get in trouble for it.

take your lumps and move on

They could have seen that it was only a 20 second clip, asked her to delete it and given her a warning.

The Movie manager could have done this him/herself.

    Over reaction city.

    And she is hot !

The fact she was arrested is stupid. She didn't film the whole thing. The only thing that seems right is to kick her out of the theater.

I wonder how much money she could get for that 20 second clip. I bet she could sell it at the flea market.

THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD CLOSE OUR BORDERS!! :p

I mean being in this country illegaly..fine, but filming a 20 second clip of a movie in a theater is just crossing the line buddy!
