I was AT that San Diego game. Their 1st ever road game. It was REALLY BAD on offense, such a wakeup call of "expansion team" after the Cowboys win. It was SO BAD that the Charger fans stopped taunting and actually started feeling sorry for us and the team.

Brock was **** today and so was the oline. He was under duress just about every time he dropped back to pass. This defense is supposed to be so good but you allow scoring drives on the first two possessions of the game. This was a typical Obrien stink up the joint loss against a quality team.

The problem is Bob McNair's regime, and his 'once bitten, twice shy' attitude towards burning a high draft pick on a QB. David Carr had no protection and became a shell of his little brother's self. Pity. But how else do you explain signing two career backups over the past 10 years, based on both of them looking not terrible behind center, after the incumbent gets hurt / is removed from the lineup? For pete's sake, they're practically the same guy; tall, not particularly mobile, questionable play-calling abilities. But I digress...I think McNair's regime is averse to using prime draft position to take a chance on an offensive game-changer, based on the Carr debacle. Texans will continue to see subpar QB play; if anything Osweiler's early 'deer in the headlights' predictability on routes should make for a sooner $70M charge off the books, relative to Schaub and his years of polishing iron pyrite while we thought he was refining gold. Texans will have to draft a superstar QB and it may take a few <3 win seasons to get there.

They were probably feeling sorry for us because they knew exactly what we were going through after Ryan Leaf's immaturity, self-destructive behavior, and inability to lead as a QB in San Diego

Playcalling took a step back and this offense needs the run game to start clicking ASAP. So much more will open up when the Texans can run the ball.

I agree, but wonder why we seem to have such a hard time running the ball. It has to be a combination of terrible play design and blocking, and not just our running backs.

Well, technically, the defense only allowed 24 points, which would tie for 2nd most points the Vikings have scored this year. They hung 25 on the Titans.

How many games have teams won scoring 6 points?

6 points? Not many, but if Noodle Leg Novak makes the 51 yard FG and the officials call it when Fuller is tackled in the end zone, it's 20 points, not 6 (not really sure where you got 6 points anyway) and then it becomes a totally different game. Unfortunately they didn't get the blatantly obvious call and the defense didn't do their job.

Well, good luck in the hypothetical playoffs this year...

I think the biggest problem right now is that fans don't have realistic expectations and comments like this prove it. The Texans weren't ever winning the SB this year. That was never a realistic possibility. Once we accept that and move on, I think ridiculous "Well we're gonna lose in the playoffs" comments will just go away. Of course the Texans are going to lose in the playoffs.....duh. I don't see how that's really a relevant observation. The goal this year is winning a playoff game before getting bounced. Maybe that happens, maybe it doesn't.

You're running into a brick wall defending Osweiler at this point. Sure, there are ancillary reasons - complex system, lack of experience, drops, route running, protection, no running game... but he doesn't look the part. His feet and mechanics are a mess; he's playing 100 mph; his decisions are poor. So to say it's the defense's fault, when they have an offense that can't generate sustained drives and points and is routinely compounding that with turnovers (and poor special teams play) is just laughable.

Defense hasn't been great. But, come on...

It's a combination of factors. The O line is awful meaning lots of pressure on the QB instantly, which is leading to "happy feet" and inaccurate passes. Brock is making some bad decisions which is leading to interceptions. WR's aren't helping him by dropping perfectly thrown passes and in other instances actually causing interceptions. The defense didn't do their job at all in the last 3 games, 2 of which ended up losses as a result.

Due to all of this, the Texans aren't a SB contender this year. If you expect them to be, maybe you are let down, but it's your own damn fault for thinking they were contenders to begin with. It's the first year of a new QB and Watt is hurt.

Adding to that, if you seriously thought that Brock Osweiler, or any QB for that matter, was going to look good against the Vikings with a patchwork O line and little to no run game......well, again, not very realistic. 2 former MVP's of the league have looked like ass against the Vikings this season, both arguably worse than Brock did. There was no reason to expect a good game from him, or to freak out when the obvious happened. It's like giving a 5 year old a calculus exam and then branding them r****ded when they don't get an A

No; I've never consider the Super Bowl to be a realistic standard/expectation - in no sport do I expect my team to win it all - that's fool's gold. My hope is that my favorite teams will play meaningful games down the stretch. That's my bar.

On a more macro level, I expect them to be competitive and not overmatched; to at least appear that they belong on the same field. That's twice in two weeks in which the Texans have looked like a JV team scrimmaging varsity. And you'd be a fool to not think they're headed for at least two more of those this year (Denver and Green Bay, with Oakland looking more and more troubling).

Good - how about competent? I don't think that's asking too much.

And to pretend this is a post-Viking freakout is silly; this is a five-game long freakout that has seen Osweiler settle in as one of the worst QBs in football.

Some of the best QB's in the game didn't look competent against the Vikings......

anyway, the Texans WILL play meaningful games down the stretch, so by your standards or expectations, things will be just fine. That's why the overreaction is so ridiculous right now.

How many of them look incompetent against the Titans? Patriots? Chiefs?...

Will they?... Better than decent chance they're 3-4 in two weeks.

See, now that's a blazing hot take right there. Get this kind of stuff out of your system now because the hot takes will be put on hold after this week for a little while due to the Texans getting to face the 3rd worst defense in the NFL. Think of this week as a hot take Rumspringa, but we'll all be back building barns and making cheese next Monday.

Yeah... I don't think they're beating the Colts; I mean, **** - when was the last time they beat Andrew Luck? 2012? This team routinely shows up unprepared and overwhelmed. Hope I'm wrong....

Of course you think that right now, it's hot take Rumspringa. Don't worry though, things will magically look better this time next week....of course they won't actually be any different, but the pendulum will swing the other way for a week till the Broncos game and then the world will be coming to an end for a week. It's just how NFL fans are.
