No way Landry stays on the 12 man active roster. And even to be able to go to the D-league, you have to keep the guy on the 15 man roster. That might happen, but I dont think that Landry will see any extended time (maybe temporarily due to injury) on the active roster.

I wonder if Landy can be sent to the D-League while maintaining him unsigned? That way the Rockets can keep his rights, kind of like keeping the rights to the European players while they develop.

Anybody know the answer to this?

What makes you say that? Who will play in front of him? Just curious to what you think.

It appears that Novak is one trick but I think if you watch the summer league games again and pay attention to the offense when Novak is in you will notice that it seems to run a LOT smoother. Harris is a favorite of mine cause I like his hustle but nothing runs through him, he just makes a positive impact on plays through hard work. When Landry is in and especially when McFarlin was in the offense gets ugly, these are the times you see Brooks kind of carry things.

You make some good points but you contradict yourself at the same time. For the most of the summer league Brooks, Landry, and Novak were on the floor at the same time. I think the offense ran more smoothly due to Brooks bein on the floor, not Novak. And the offense got ugly when Landry was in there? I understand that it didn't look good when McFarlin was in, but it seemed like Landry was the only big making really nice passes from the high post.

well if the lucas trade in confirmed then we are down to 18:

    yao-deke-butler
    scloa-hayes-landry-reed
    shane-bonzi-harris-novak
    tmac-head-snyder
    rafer-james-brooks-sura

    when sura retires, that's 17.

only 2 guys left to cut. 3 if steve signs.

Out of this list I would cut Novak and then choose not to sign Deke. He's probly one of my favorite PEOPLE in the NBA but I just don't think he has much left to offer.

if nothing else, deke is a good practice body against yao, and a good leader on the team.

i think snyder, reed, and harris are redundant. a couple of those guys should go.

We need to make a trade soon because all we keep talking about is who is avaliable. As fas as Steve. I liked him at first but when it came down to the playoffs i got tired of him trying to do it all by him self. I think Rafer is an okay PG and in this new system will be perfect for him. Van Gundy's offense hurt many of our players.

We can only retain his rights if he is signed to the team, and kept on the 15 man roster. That is the only way he can be sent by the Rockets, to the D league. He can go play in the D-league on his own if he is released by the Rockets, but anyone could pick him up then.

I just dont think that even if he is kept on the 15 man roster, that he would be in the active 12. And even if he was active, I dont think that he would ever play, with Scola, Hayes, Butler and possibly Reed and Novak in line for PF minutes ahead of him. Most likely the third and fourth PF's will never crack the rotation. IMO.

    PG - Alston/James/Brooks
    SG - Mac/Francis/Head
    SF - Battier/Wells/Snyder
    PF - Scola/Hayes/Reed/Novak
    C - Yao/Butler

I don't think that I contradict myself I just failed to clarify. i.e. when Landry was in and Novak was out the offense seemed to stagnate. Obviously when Novak and Landry were in together was when things ran the best because this would be our best team on the floor. Landry, Brooks, Novak.

I don't think this is correct. We have his rights for 1 year post draft day + any time playing in other professional leagues. I think for us to lose him he would have to sit out of basketball a full year--that is why teams hold on to the rights of guys in Europe for so long.

I don't see any role for Landry this year. In fact, I also don't really like our PF situation. One very highly skilled guy but one who has never played NBA ball (Scola), one legit NBA PF who will always have some major upside limites (Hayes). Landry, Novak, Reed, Novak--you can't count on any of these guys.

I would like to see a 3-1 trade that includes Alston or Head or a 1-1 Mike James trade with a seperate agreement to thin our roster for another legit vet back-up PF. We should look at a guy like Marshall or Cook rather than hope Novak/Landry/Reed will cut it.
