I'd want Harris and Landry to remain on the team. Just hope they can hit the 15 footer consistently.

it's starting to require a super computer to track all these guys. Ok, so ya gotta get rid of 6 guys. How bout these guys ya give the boot to? Tsakalidis, Reed, Novak, Newley, JLIII, Butler, Sura...ok that's actually 7 but it leaves a roster spot for Francis to come in.

Give Butler the boot? I think not. More likely Head or Snyder will go if we get Francis. Francis >> Head, Francis >> Snyder. End of story.

I think this roster suits Adelman's system best: (as of now)

    Yao/Deke/Butler
    Scola/Hayes/Landry/Novak
    Battier/T-Mac
    Wells/Snyder/Head
    James/Alston/Brooks

I'd hate to see Novak in the lineup but I think he could be useful to Adelman's system. Keeping the opposing 4 away from the basket and let the guards cut inside or take the outside jumper which I hope Novak could atleast do.

21 guys to pare down to 15. When the season starts it'll be most likely a 10 man rotation so 5 of those guys will be glued to the bench. With the players we have, it will be almost unbearable to watch the 5 guys with talent stuck to the bench. But so it goes in the NBA. With our roster now, who do you see as the 10 guys that will get playing time?

    You can't teach size. Butler is a PF/C. Francis is a G.

Oh really, lets keep Jake too since you can't teach size.

I'm just saying we need to keeps some of our big men. We haven't signed Mutumbo or Jake. Right now all we have are Butler and Yao. Out of Butler, Jake, and Mutumbo, I'd like to keep at least two, and IMO Jake's the odd man out.

This is my first post so please be easy on me until i get into the flow of things. Without much further adieu(sp?)

    1. Landry is expendable now since we traded for scola and since we want to keep novak(rockets claimed they want to use him a the 4) we don't really have a spot for landry anymore.

    2. I really hope they keep snyder instead of harris because there is alot of untapped potential there that we just didn't explore last season. Snyder is a very explosive player that was actually slowed down last season by if you remember that hand injury.

    3. ArtV you forgot about Dikembe in you chart but that's ok

    4. are we allowed to send reed and harris down to the NBDL without them counting against our roster spot?

With a bit of Editing, these would be OUR 12 for next season:

    C - Yao Ming/Dikembe Mutombo/Jackie Butler
    PF -Chuck Hayes/(Trade?)
    SF - Shane Battier/Bonzi Wells
    SG - Tracy McGrady/Luther Head
    PG - Steve Francis/Mike James/Aaron Brooks

    with the other 3 of:

    Luis Scola
    Carl Landry
    Steve Novak

    There's your 15! ;) :p

What? Where did you hear that we were keeping Novak over Landry? I'd rather send Novak elsewhere and keep Landry.

Well if we do get Francis, I think Head or Snyder has to go. Snyder has shown potential of being good on the NBA level, but Francis has demonstrated his scoring on an NBA level, so Francis > Snyder. I wouldn't drop both Head and Snyder, but I think there's not enough room for both and Francis, if we get him (and that's still a big if).

I have a hard time believing that we will release these guys without attempting a trade this off-season. We have alot of assets and I'll be shocked of we don't get another big with our point guard jam. I'd imagine the contracts that involve sura will be for picks and cash.

Why are you guys all so sure James would be kept if Steve comes back?

IMO, James is more likely to go than Rafer in that case.

    3. I don't think Deke will be resigned. Butler is Yao's backup and our PFs will have sub as a C in a "short" pinch.

    4. Yes - players we send down to the NBDL count as a roster spot.

While it's true James and Francis are similar players, I would keep both like most people. Because 1) it increases our talent and 2) gives us a safety net. Both have big egos and might not work out in Adelman's system, so by having two, we're pretty sure there's going to be an upgrade at the 1 this season. If we only have one of them and they don't defer to Yao and T-Mac, then we're back to Rafer.

I've said it before, and I'll repeat myself, I don't see why we would keep Head and Snyder over Alston if we get Francis. A rotation of James/Francis/Alston/T-Mac/Snyder/Brooks would be plenty deep for a playoff team.
