Oh this has been a bad year for Tech. No doubt about that. But I do find it interesting that Tech will still be in a bigger bowl, albeit to a team I could care less about.
Memphis and Rice were the equivalent of playing the practice squads of the San Jose SaberCats and the Winnepeg Blue Bombers.
So did you JUST start watching college football or something? It's called conference bowl alignments. Most Big 12 bowls are more prestigious than CUSA bowls. This surprises you?
this will definitely be a tough challenge in front of a very partisan crowd on the road. ECU has some intense fans. I'm cheering for the Coogs in this one, but I think it will be a very tough test.
The awful weather predicted might take some of the spirit out of those fans. We'll see what it does to the passing game.
Whoo boy, you're right... Tech, in the Alamo Bowl, facing a 6-6 Michigan State team would be worlds better than playing in the Liberty Bowl!
What happened to the Alamo Bowl??? I remember when they would get great matchups with teams like Penn St, Michigan, Nebraska and of course the Texas schools. Tech is a good name along with Michigan St but 6-6??? Did they just get knocked down the pecking order or what?
Well, nothing happened. Penn State, Michigan, Nebraska and Texas all had down years when they played there. This year Texas Tech appears to be there.
I pretty much conceded that Tech was going to a "better" bowl. Now that I know which one it is, not the case. Alamo is far less attractive and prestigious than the Liberty bowl. Except for money... but if we're playing that game, the "Champ Sports Bowl" and the "Chik-Fil-A Bowl" have just as big, or bigger payouts, than the Alamo bowl. But once again, we can only go to our conferences bowl games, and you knew that, sooo... just another fatty moment I guess.
I suppose your right, just remember in the late 90's early 2000's the matchups where pretty sweet with ranked teams all over the place...oh well.
#1) Obviously you haven't been to Memphis. #2) Bigger payout means a better bowl game for the school. #3) Lol. You think the Liberty bowl is more prestigious than the Chick-Fil-A Bowl? What?? You realize that has been the highest non-BCS bowl for the last decade. It was called The Peach Bowl originally? Maybe you're too young to recall.
1) I have been, twice. Once for the CUSA basketball tourney (as a member of the band) and once for the Liberty Bowl in 2006. Had an absolute blast both times. Can't wait to go back. 2) Bigger payout means more money for the conference and nothing more. 3) Other than the money, I'd rather play in the Liberty Bowl 100 times out of 100 than the "We're a good fast food restaurant but closed on Sundays" Bowl. Same goes for the Cotton Bowl if they ever renamed it to the "We have the iPhone but our network sucks" Bowl. 4) That's does it, you're no longer my running partner!
Why am I even having this argument? Fatty is trying to lean on the clout of the Big 12 to prop up Tech since UH has scoreboard and ranking on them. Looks like I fell for the...
The Big XII bowl tie-ins generally suck. Other than the Holiday Bowl, none of them are in particularly desirable locations. Additionally, the matchups are somewhat crummy. Compare it to the SEC that has teams matched up against the #1 non-BCS pick from the Big Ten (Capital 1 Bowl), ACC (Chick-Fil-A), Big XII (Cotton Bowl), and Conference USA (Liberty Bowl). On top of that, they play the #2 non-BCS Big Ten team in the Outback Bowl. The lineup only gets stronger next year as the SEC drops the Independence Bowl for the Gator Bowl.
Looks like this is not true, based on the official Liberty Bowl Twitter page: http://twitter.com/Liberty_Bowl
