That's where I think this is relevant. When Palin was running for governor, she said she would support funding for abstinence only programs but not sex-ed programs. Now her daughter, presumably a product such education (if not at school then at home), gets knocked up at 17. It's a reflection on how abstinence only programs don't work. I wouldn't have a problem with them if they did, but they don't. The fact that it happened to the daughter of a VP candidate makes it juicy gossip. A woman who expects abstinence only education to be effective for most (if not all) students, can't get it to work even in her own home. If that's part of her platform, then that makes it relevant.
I disagree. I don't think this really reflects poorly on Palin to conservatives. I mean, if anything, it demonstrates how serious of a problem teenage pregnancy is - and certainly isn't the best example to set. But I don't think it shows poor judgement on McCain or that Palin is putting politics ahead of family - that's not fair. You can raise why didn't teaching abstience work - and that's a legitimate argument on Palin's views about abstience....but anything else really isn't in my opinion. I think if people go after this in the wrong way - like you are saying, it will backfire. I personally hope the Democrats don't do that. I don't think Palin was a great pick, but doing this would be wrong and a mistake.

I think I know what happened. The Palin's teach abstinence and family values so I bet that she was miraculously inseminated by God. I'm expecting a press conference by the end of the week with pictures of Bristol's unbreached hymen. The rumor is spreading that they will name the child MacBeth.
I don't have anything to say about Palin's daughter and the only thing I had to say about the other rumor was that I don't traffic in unsubstantiated trash rumors (like you, Chicken George). My delight was in pointing out how stupid you look calling somebody out on their spelling when you still don't know how to spell your own new favorite word.
Age of consent is a silly standard to use for whether or not she was under age. The purpose of the law is for setting the bar for statutory rape, not for adulthood. She is in high school, she's still a child, she is under 18, she is under age.
