Obama has already come out and said that family should be off limits in politics... especially their children. We'll see if the left media will be as classy as him.
Republicans will likely argue that the two teens are engaged and getting married and will likely be on their own, without their parents.
I see your point on the religious right. I spent many, many years out in Jesus-happy Abilene, TX. I understand the hypocrisy present in the religious right more than most people because I witnessed it first hand for so many years. But as far as the Palin family goes, I applaud them for standing up for what they believe in, and I can't see any hypocrisy at all on their part. They're pro-life, and they stuck to their guns 110%. I can admire that. I dated this chick whose dad was a big-wig in the Baptist church in a small Texas town. He hated me, probably because he (correctly) figured I was boning his daughter. She had a friend from her hometown church who had had an abortion, and very few people knew about it. Thing is, the church higher-ups knew about it, apparently condoned it, and then basically turned their backs on the girl. THAT is hypocrisy in its truest form. But despite that and countless other examples, there are still plenty of good people in this world. On both sides of the political fence. Some of the best people I've ever known are card-carrying bible-bangers who somehow had the whole 'judge not' thing down pat, while others are super-stoned, super-liberal hippies, who somehow had the 'live and let live' thing down pat. Two groups of people who somehow managed to get it right. Sometimes our anger at one particular side or group jades the whole damn thing. Eh....I don't really know what my point is here....but I'm not so blind as to think that hypocrisy isn't present on both sides. Don't let your anger at one sector of conservative America (the religious right, in this case) jade you toward the rest. You'll run the risk of coming across as a crazy person. Then again, maybe if I was more judgmental I'd have an easier time figuring out who to vote for. Anyway. Carry on. [/rambling]
She advocates a policy that has failed her own family. It's certainly not a perfect world and that's why many would argue that children need every bit of education we can provide them so they can make informed choices rather than ignorant ones.
A self-righteous hypocritical douche?....... don't use so many words in one insult. I'll get a headache. but nice to see you have reduced yourself to sophmoric name calling to push your 'assumed' point of view. the rest of your response is mush, you're reaching and it reeks of paranoia. and smoking causes cancer....H2S is a known carcinogen. We aren't banning cigs or gasoline. quit reaching. pretty much said......or said? reacher. again you are ASSUMING. quit inserting stuff into my post I never said. If it is your opinion that is what I was presuming......fine, it's your pathetic assumptions, but I never said it. The 'douche'(I stole your insult) who started that thread said he or his wife thought Palin was trying to kill the baby by not going to the doctor after her water broke. dude, if you have any children at all you would know it's not like in the movies when a womens water breaks the baby comes out 5 minutes later. whether or not she made a wise/unwise choice by getting on the plane is for you to decide, I haven't touched the subject because I haven't read anything on it, and frankly, it's not going to have much bearing on my vote. I just made the response about my wifes experience because it was moronic to assume Palin was trying to kill her child. never said the unborn child is the ONLY thing important to me, yet again, you are using words I never said. puss....pussycat, womens genitalia. I'm done exposing your uber sensitive assumptions. I don't feel an absolute right to control the opposite sex, (suprise, you are reaching) I have stated my beliefs, It's not about control or forcing anything. Congrats on completely missing the bus. maybe I should start assuming and reaching to solidify my arguments, apparently you think it's working.
I have 2 children. And I have two good friends who are OBGYNs. They don't tell women, particularly those who have already delivered previous babies, to take their time getting to the hospital after their water breaks. Most women are not even advised to fly at all in their 3rd trimester. You brought it up in your personal case to defend Palin's 8 hour flight after her water broke when the posters own's words on his position were "At the minimum it is very bad judgement". Your personal case has no bearing on whether it was medically risky, which it was. So when you referred to the "pussification" of Americans in response to people being bent out of shape that you thought it was funny to ridicule a 17 year old's looks you were not using a variant of the slang word for female genitalia? The only time I have heard that word in such a context it is from puss + y = you know slang for uber-wimp & part of a females body all rolled into one. Maybe you are an exception I suppose. Well, you could have fooled me with the comments below.... I do apologize for the triple worded insult, unneccesary. There is enough there to question your judgment and thoughtfulness within the BBS Discussion forum--I should have left it at that.
The more trash that gets brought up, the more iffy Palin sounds. A fifth child would usually be born very soon after the water breaks. I just don't see how a doctor would ok an airplane ride after the water broke.
yet another response filled with assumptions of what YOU believe I was implying. Not nearly what I was stating. The Palin flight issue. I never said she should/shouldn't get on the flight, I was using my wifes example to show how moronic it was to state that Palin was trying to kill her own child........do I need to say it a 3rd time so you won't assume again? Puss+y is your word. I never used it. I could care less if you think I'm a sad individual because of the Clinton/Reno joke. I'm sure you have found humor in something that wasn't exactly PC somewhere in your life, but I know you'll never admit to it here, you have a BBS rep to uphold. I'm not suprised my comments fooled you into thinking anything other than what they actually say.......seems to be a recurring theme with you.
Actually that is not always true. When my wife gave birth to our eighth and final child it took ten hours after her water broke until she gave birth. Basically she went right up until the time before the doctor was going to intervene with a C-section.
People aren't dissing the joke because it isn't PC. They are dissing the joke because it is 2nd grade humor, and offensive. I've explained why it's such base and dimwitted joke already in the thread. It has nothing to do with PC
I've skimmed this thread, and most of the posters in here -- starting with the glee of bejezuz -- have saddened me greatly because many (not all) have lowered politics to blood sport. To get at the mother, the child becomes fair game (no pun intended). Compassion becomes color in the land of the blind. I don't mean to sound sanctimonious. I love to poke fun, and sometimes I even play troll a little to aggravate certain posters, but doing this at the expense of an innocent person is unthinkable. Yet, for some of you, this travesty is certainly thinkable. I'm ashamed for the board.
You may not mean to sound sanctimonious but that is exactly what you sound like. Everyone may say the "right" things but for me, I hope this blows up in McCain's face. He would be a cancer in the White House, no pun intended, and we do not need him. If hurting the feelings of some 17 year old girl that will drift into the abyss of nothingness in 2 more months is what will help derail this guy, so be it. This is much bigger than a pregnant 17 year old girl and everyone knows damn well if the roles were reversed the Repubs would be going nuts. The hypocracy is silly. Obama is saying and doing the right thing by condoning the spread of this news but that won't stop it from being news and having an effect on this election.
No argument. I was never trying to lamblast the Palin family. In fact, the details of her family's little situation was ancillary, at best. True. But it's also hypocrisy to point fingers when you yourself are no better. The whole "do as I say, not as I do" childishness of the religious right. Well said.
So you condone smearing her family in order to help Obama get elected? That seems to be the gist of your comments. If so, then you're no better than the people on DailyKos who spread lies about Palin and her daughters. You know, I always thought the Hillary supporters were a little over-the-top when they complained about how their candidate was treated during the primaries. But I get it now. And frankly I don't remember Hillary having these sorts of attacks thrown her way.
You're very good at Mater Baiting. However, I was just as irritated when people were doing Chelsea jokes when she was a child. There are few who dislike her mother as much as me, but I believe children (unless they are voting adults) are out of bounds. But, if this is what the Democratic Party now is, perhaps I should go back to the GOP. At least I feel philosophical comfort there despite being angry with the current leadership.
It's not smearing if it is the truth. Is she going to get her little feelings hurt? Probably. I don't care and I figure if the roles were reversed you wouldn't care either.
Give me a break, this works both ways and it isn't like they are making this up. SHE IS REALLY PREGNANT!
