The one factual thing we do know amid my hypotheticals is that the taser didn't kill him or apparaently even cause any lingering discomfort. Cops have to make judgment calls. In this instance the officer's action put an end to the event without anyone getting seriously hurt.
Sucks for him putting himself in the situation to be seriously injured. It would be his own fault. Some people have to learn the hard way.
Dude, it's not about defending the kid. He's a dumb ass. He deserved to be detained and punished/fined for his actions. It's about defending your rights as a citizen and making sure law enforcement is doing it's job right. In reality, it's defending you and I more than it is field-rusher boy.
Yeah, I don't think anyone said what the kid did was right or legal. We are simply condemning the actions of some fat, lazy cops
Do you feel then that police should be able to do whatever to anyone who breaks a law? Would you be fine with cops beating someone who they stopped for jaywalking since it was their own fault for jay walking and some people have to learn the hard way?
I'm confused at what could possibly be wrong about using a taser once on someone refusing to comply with the law. The officer brought a quick end to the problem. Nobody really got hurt. Heck the taser is probably safer for the kid then getting tackled by someone a lot bigger then him. And for people who complain about the cop being too fat to catch him, what if it had been a skinny cop who had less natural speed then this kid? What if the cop is 40 vs. this 17 year old? Doesn't help that cops don't exactly get to wear running shoes when chasing guys.
That is not a lesson worth learning because some cop was too lazy/out of shape to do his job the right way.
Alls well that ends well? True this situation ended up OK but that doesn't mean it always will. To me this is clearly a situation where the lack of fitness of the cop could cause problems.
If he was annoying everyone why was the crowd cheering him on and then booing the cops after he got tasered.
I find it hard to believe that anyone can believe what he supposedly does, but I have never seen him post before so I have no idea
I keep reading comments about a fat cop. Clearly, the guy that did the tasing was out of shape. However, in the video, are there not several skinny/in shape people that the kid is also outrunning?
If he knew he would be beaten for jaywalking and you did anyway then its his own fault for doing so. But that is an fantasy-realm hypothetical anyway and has nothing to do with reality.
There were other security guys on the field and from the video it looks like they were going to catch him soon.
If you don't know how accurate the tasers are, then why are you suggesting there was a risk to others? At the proximity in which the officer was to the culprit, the taser is quite accurate: The officer did the right thing; it's not like other instances of "taser abuse." The taser is simply a newer, more efficient tool that's helped officers (and citizens) more than it "harms" (via misuse). On a tangent, I always am amused how some folks have an opinion about certain topics without experiencing them -- weapons, and more specifically guns, is a perfect example where it's too easy to say they're "unsafe" without actually holding or firing one in your lifetime. Essentially: you shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion until you've had experience in the subject matter.
He made the decision to put himself in danger, period. The sooner you can take complete responsibility for your actions, the freer you become.
