Typically, I'd side against the cops in situations like this. I agree that they should be required to be in shape if they're going to be on the ground. However, this dips*** deserves it and so does every other f***ing moron that thinks it's funny to do this. You're just an idiot. Shut the f*** up.
I'm sure they are trained exactly how to handle the situation. You can not assume the intentions of someone running onto the field. The cops should be thanked for keeping the field secure, but that is beyond the capacity of liberal cop bashers.
...and what's so severe about it? Did you watch that clip? With tasering, the kid glided on his own to a stop. He didn't hurt himself and nobody else was hurt. I don't see how any fewer people could be hurt. ... yet you think that a full body tackle would be less severe? I don't see how. Please explain.
Well, when you're running around on a baseball field with police officers chasing you, I'm afraid you forfeit your ability to choose between being tackled and being taser'ed.
He was annoying 40 thousand people who were there to watch a game and not some wimpy kid running around in circles. They should have tased him the minute he went out there.
as for pain, i'm not sure. I'm sure it didnt feel good. You don't necessarrily shake around, the tazer immobilizes you. Once he got hit with the juice, his muscles just locked up. Once released, you should be completely fine seconds later. hes, he is pudgy but from the way the guy made it sound, i was expecting a 300 pounder. whatever you say mr serious. I suppose you've never laughed at someone doing something stupid and then getting some kind of physical encounter caused to them because of said stupid action. Yeah, no one gets a chuckle out of things like that... Spoiler
I'd love to see why. But since I doubt evidence can be produced, let's stick with a simple question. Which is a more appropriate use of force for someone who is dangerous/armed/threatening? Tackling or Tasering? Obviously tasering, correct? Now, which is a more appropriate use of force for someone who is *not* dangerous/armed/threatening?
he probably gave the audience a good laugh if anything, it gave them a distraction to the bore that is the game of baseball
After the fact, it is easier to determine he wasn't dangerous or armed. While the event was occuring, it is not as easy a call. What if he all of a sudden pulls a gun or knife out of his pocket? Again, hindsight makes things easier.
I'm all for aprehending someone who runs out on the field but in this case the use of a taser IMO wasn't just excessive it was a risk to the other guys trying to catch the kid. When the cop tasers the kid some of the other security guys are pretty close. I don't know how accurate tasers are but I doubt they are that much when being shot at a moving target while on the run. This cop could've hit one of the other guys. I also fully agree with the other posters that this is a case of an out of shape cop relying upon the taser.
Unfortunately there's not enough hard evidence on the rate of injuries involved in physical action vs. tasering, so this discussion will prove fruitless. No doubt studies are going on and stats are being compiled, though. In the meantime, I'll take a good old fashioned tacklin' over voltage on the brain and heart, just my personal preference.
I didnt know law breakers could choose their punishments like that. Next time I get a speeding ticket I'll tell the cop that I'd rather shake hands instead of getting a ticket
And what if the taser killed his ass because of a heart condition? It's easy to make up hypotheticals too, but officers need to use their best judgment when deploying weapons, and this wasn't the best/most advisable/appropriate use of a taser/weapon imo.
There are risk to both and a big guy running full speed into the kid easily could cause some major injury. This goes back to one thing though that I have noticed about cops is that they often seem too quick to use tasers for compliance or even just to move someone into a more convenient position than other moves. It seems to me to be either laziness, lack of training or both on part of officers.
In that case, the kid could have broken his arm or got a concussion. Thank god he got tasered And if he had a heart condition, he shouldnt be doing stupid stuff like that!!!!!
What would your reaction be if the taser killed the kid because of a heart condition? What if the cop missed and hit an innocent person? Once again, hypotheticals are easy to trot out to make your case, but they don't mean much. Besides, even in your hypothetical, you admit to the cop "slamming" him down... there's such a thing as excessive force when it comes to physically subduing people as well. No one is advocating the dude give him a stone-cold stunner... that is what this whole argument is about, this is an example of a cop not able to do is his job having to rely on a tool to do it for him. I'm honestly more upset that the cop is obviously unqualified physically to do his job than I am that he used a taser.
I agree security should be in better shape. Nobody looked fast at all. But I'll take a taser than a player tackling me.
