C'mon man, it was really half tongue in cheek. How often do we see "Hispanic?" in threads? Nobody flips out over those. But I tease white people about doing strange things and now we all get serious? Have some fun.
I shouldn't have said it because this is heading to D&D territory which will suck. I know you were just pulling the usual "haha jab." It's so irrelevant that I'm embarrassed I even commented.
I would argue that being well off generally allows for greater (and often pointless) ambitions. Economic certainty and comfort gives you a completely different outlook on life and allows you to go after higher order needs. There are exceptions but that is how I see things in general. Regardless, I hope the girl is OK even if she brought it upon herself.
So you saying jails are filled with black men because they are set up? Interesting how this became a race issue and who turned into one.
That happens due to poverty and people struggling to make a living. If you have the ability to sail around the world as a 16 year old, it means you have far less things to worry about in life than someone who has to sell their body for money.
Of course, it's not just white people taking risking sailing trips. Quite a sailing fad in Vietnam back in the mid 1970s, I believe.

"Everyone is special!" - Mrs. Incredible "that's just another way of saying no one is . . " - Mr Incredible The difference between Special and Stupid . . . alot of times is luck and outcome [I am quite sure folx think Columbus was special . . but he was not the 1st european to try to sail west. . he was just the 1st to do it successfully . . many others died trying it . . .where they as 'special' as Columbus?] Everyone wants to be 'special' I think the valuation of one human life over another because that life is 'special' is disturding No one is 'normal' Rocket River
Actually anybody can attempt it, few have the desire and money to do it, and even fewer will do it successfully. I want to know why you do this alone. I have numerous things I would like to do including hiking the Appalachian Trail, but I wouldn't do it by myself. What if something that you don't expect happens? Does it discount your achievement because you decreased your personal risk while accomplishing the same feat?
Did you hear what the father said? something along the line ... or for some of you, in front of the keyboards ...
there's a certain intrigue for some people in doing difficult tasks alone, you did it by yourself, you needed no help and you accomplished your goal. some people like the challenge. she knew the risks, her parents knew the risks. they'll deal with it, quit judging people.
Moderately rich people trying to be famous and making poor decisions. I wonder what they analyzed the risk of dying to be? What's acceptable? 1 in 10? 1 in 100? 1 in 1000? If it was my kid one in a thousand might be acceptable - if it was her money she was spending. Since it would be my money, it wouldn't happen.
as oppose to cold, alone and drowning at sea . . . . . Should we take a poll? I hope the kid is ok. I pray they find her. But commentary like that from her dad. . . . He sounds like the Sailing Equivalent of HOCKEY/LIL LEAGUE DAD I wonder if he pushed her into it a bit . .. after hearing something like that Not unlike a kid taking Roids to impress his dad by getting on the team Dad doesn't give him the roids. . .but definately gives him the motivation Rocket River
