treeman, How long is it before something like this usually hits here in the US news? I am not doubting it, I just know that I have seen things like this, namely the story about Saddam saying he encouraged the protests, from a foreign source not be reported here then weeks later come out on a number of US news sources.
I would suggest we are worse...We are the only one of those who supplied him who are now claiming that his having them is so intolreable that it warrants a war...At least the French and/or Germans are being consistent, and not playing The US Giveth, The US Taketh Away...
Me personally? No, I believe they continued to make it, but that's not worth much, is it? I was saying that it is speculation. It would be helpful if they could account for Dr. Germ's (or whatever her name is) activities over the last 10 years.
I take it that you beleive that these shipments must have been approved by the President? That other countries were not receiving the same for research and health purposes, simply under a written set of rules and regs?
Check out this site. Granted it's some California hippie page, but I have seen all of their accusations corroborated elsewhere. Specifically intresting to me was the sale of the West Nile virus to Iraq. From what I understand the Justice department wanted to block the sale while the Commerce department, with the backing of high level cabinet people, pushed the sale through. Shouldn't the President at least be accountable for the transgressions of his own cabinet? On another note, am I the only one who finds it intresting that there have recently been outbreaks of Crimean-Congo Hemoragic Fever in the middle east to have been a bit suspicious? Finally, basic anthrax cultivation could be done at roughly the same difficulty as is encountered in home-brewing beer.
Any particular reason this hasn't made U.S. news, and that Bush isn't screaming and yelling about this? If there were ever a case to be made of why we need to attack Iraq, this would be it. (Unless it isn't true, of course.)
As seeing Bush isn't screaming or jumping and the media isn't jumping on it, I am betting it's false.
Huh? I've seen this site before. How does it address my questions to RocketMan Tex? You do mention something relevant when you stated 'From what I understand the Justice department wanted to block the sale while the Commerce department', but that's not from the site, is it? I am also interested in knowing how uncommon these shipments were. Other countries were sending these materials to Iraq also. Were we also sending these materials to other nations? Is it a common occurrence to send these materials to unversities around the world? That gets to the heart of the assertion that this was one of Reagan's 'biggest foreign policy blunders'. It may be true, but my sense is that this was just a partisan statement.
