To my addle pated self, James to a 'need' team, Toronto (where mj had his greatest success), for Kopono seems like a doable deal.
Maybe it's just me, but this is what I found to be the most interesting part of the snippet. The Griz are already near the bottom of the league in payroll. Most teams are spending between 73 and 63 million this year, and Memphis is barely over 55. For them to already be that low budget and STILL be hurting financially is alarming. There are 3 teams in the NBA that I believe to have shaky viability: New Orleans Charlotte Memphis Memphis and NO both draw paltry crowds - 13k and 12k respectively. All 3 teams struggle to keep their places 3/4s full. I've held that Stern has been one of the greatest commissioners in any sport, but he blundered in the WORST possible way when he sided with Shinn and moved the Hornets to New Orleans, and again when he didn't make the relocation to OKC permanent. It's just not a viable city, and Carolina doesn't have half the love for the Bobcats as they did for the Hornets - the city was given a raw deal. Evan
What does Mighty Mouse bring at this point in his career that we can't get from Brooks? I know Damon is a vet but he isn't exactly Sam Cassell when it comes to veteran savvy and clutchness. If we are going to have a midget at PG I would prefer to give more minutes to Brooks. He is earning it.
Interesting read. At the very least it confirms our suspicions that we're looking to shake things up in the backcourt.
Rashard Lewis is to me what Rudy Gay is to most people these days. But Rashard isn't now and never was the kind of player that you build a team around, and as he showed when he got the chance, he would have bolted unless offered a fat stack of cash. In fact, he had the chance to come to Houston, but chose to take more money to play in Orlando. So I get the "destined to play in Houston" part, but would add the "destined to be overpaid like Tim Thomas and play in another city" tag to your comment. I don't recall any buzz about the Rockets chasing after Derek Harper or K.J. Would you please enlighten me about that?
when we traded for charles barkely, he tried to sway kj away from retirement and wanted him to be the point guard. just imagine what couldve happend... but what is this i hear about derek harper??
Back during the heyday of the Triumvirate (Dream, Drexler, & Barkley), our starting point guard was a rookie out of Penn named Matt Maloney. Many thought that an established point guard was all the roster was lacking to win a championship, which is why when the pre-season with the injury to our big free agent point (Brent Price) occurred, rumors swirled that the Rockets would be pursuing one of the veteran point guards that seemed to be on the market (Kevin Johnson w/ Phoenix, who also had Jason Kidd & Steve Nash on the roster; and Derek Harper of Dallas). Several times throughout the season we thought a deal with Dallas was inevitable, but nothing ever happened. Talk about Harper joining the Rockets continued into the following season until all hope was lost from the fallout in the Damon Stoudamire trade talks. Hopefully, you've been enlightened. -Turbo
There where many times I got my hopes up, thinking Stoudamire was coming. But now, isn't this a young mans game? Haven't followed him much the last few years, what's his stats look like anyone? (present/career).
Thanks - tho KJ was retired and Chuckles was publicly (and privately?) trying to get him and Rox together...tho, Price went down with his ACL in January, IIRC, just when he was finally hitting his stride as a Rock...tho, Sedeall Threatt (sp?) was finally signed, just a couple of years too late to do any good.
OK, but we've flirted with this guy like every other season. So he ends up retiring on a Texas team afterall, hmmm...
That's cuz Rafer and MJ played like the play now in houston Except for MJ that is, played that one year of pre T-wolve financial rapage
