The statement was something to effect that violent crime has exploded in England since the gun ban. DD is correct in the assertion that that statement is patently false.
Also, he was shot roughly ten blocks away from the Toyota Center, his place of business. Probably within sight of the stadium. Not much you can do.
Was it mistaken identity or was he the target? Seems kind of strange after he had a big game in New orleans. Somebody probably lost some big money or the rockets is gaining to much momentum heading into the playoffs. The rockets could spoil somebody's plan to make big money.
Neither, you guys need to get out of the suburbs and see your city. There's three music venues there on the east side of downtown that I attend reguarly and I park my car in that neighborhood and often walk several blocks early in the morning leaving those places by myself. I live by Richmond and Kirby and I would be willing to wager that percentage wise you're just as likely to be jacked by my house as you are in east downtown.
DD is right. The US has a homicide rate 3 times that of the UK. The closest developed country in the world with a homicide rate as high as the US is Finland and a murder is 50% more likely in the US than there. DD was making a comparative statement vis-a-vis other countries. I work on these issues and there is no developed country where getting a gun is easier than it is in the US.
Look, I'm not going to sit here and cite different links rebutting your statement, there are just TOO MANY OUT THERE. Just go go google BRITAIN CRIME RATE and see what you find. Britain and Australia's crime rate have RISEN since their gun bans. Their crime rates shadow US's crime rate. Please, do some research.
No argument here. I was simply saying it's foolish to think you can take a stroll the length of leeland during the dead hours of the night without the likelihood of foul play. Just because it hasn't happened, does not mean it won't or isn't possible.
