That's probably the scariest situation that a person would ever experience. He's blessed, indeed.

I can't understand why it took police 20 mins to get there. That's really slow response. If you can't stop severe bleeding, you could pass out very fast.

Damn. I had assumed yesterday that they had shot at him as they drove by, which is scary enough.

This is 100x more frightening. Being chased on foot with a bullet wound in your leg, for six blocks. Damn.

I thought one of the reports said there was a woman with Carl?

No kiddling esp. at the distance they started shooting, just crazy. I'm sure once he got running no one was going to catch him.

glad to hear he wasn't hurt badly. man, i'd be scared too if someone started shooting~ don't know what i'd do. if anyone says he wouldn't be scared to be in a situation such as this, he's either lying or doesn't value his life.

hope this doesn't affect Carl mentally though..

I have a feeling this was a hit by one of the Mexican drug cartels... I saw something the other day about how they have hired guns here in the U.S. that are American citizens.

It was probably a case of mistaken identity. They got the wrong guy.

For whatever reason no one seems to be talking about her. I wonder if the police report mentions the woman? I hope he wasn't out buying some comfort for the night.

Agreed. I generally think of DD's posts as well thought out but the typical liberal propaganda about guns is just overly tired. I don't mean to get off topic, but people who feel they don't need to own a gun live in a fictitious and naive world in which they believe none of those "bad things" they hear about in the media can possibly happen to them.

I personally own several as well and I have never (Hopefully never will) been in a situation where I've needed to draw my weapon. That doesn't mean it is not a possibility.

If Carl were carrying that night, he wouldnt' have been entirely defenseless. That was a perfect example and glimpse of a scenario had guns been banned in our society. The bad guys would have them and the good guys would have to outrun them.

so true.. situations like this will always happen until people start to change and realize that they're wasting their life by going out and hurting others... unfortunately people don't change until something bad happens to them/others

I know what you're saying. He probably lives there because it's close to Toyota Center and he makes his off season home somewhere else. But he needs to think about Katy, Sugarland, or Pearland. Bellaire is nice but the police are dangerous.

Unfortunately, I think it is going to effect him for awhile. For him not to be doing anything nor bothering anyone and almost loose his life in the process, that is scary!!!

If Carl was carrying a gun, and he felt the need to pull it out and start a gun fight in the middle of the street instead of running away from the situation, I think he would have increased the chances of seriously injuring or killing himself.

Not according to this. Lets see your source.

    http://www.pe.com/localnews/rivcounty/stories/PE_News_Local_S_guns29.16f20eb.html

ATF estimates that 95 percent of the weapons currently in Mexico are American made and a portion are moving south of the border through the Inland region. The gun trade fuels multiple drug cartels that rule the border and help move drugs between Canada and Colombia

You're misreading my point. I did not mean for him to necessarily draw his weapon out in the open when he was already being fired upon. Retreating was the right thing to do. But he was running for dear life, wounded at that, whilst the attacker was chasing him. So having a gun would atleast give Carl a fighting chance of saving his life by seeking cover, whether it be behind his car, houses what not.

Not to mention, have you thought that those attackers might have had the "confidence" to pursue Carl because they knew he didnt' have a gun. Even if Carl were to fire upon them and miss, they would think twice knowing that he is not entirely defenseless.

I think you and I would agree that in that situation, you'd rather have a gun with the potential to use it in saving your life than to not have one.

If Carl were carrying gun, he might also have been able to return fire increasing his chances of flight. A situation like this could have gone literally any direction.

For me, this is more about how the justice system deals with gun-violent criminals. Perhaps if they started executing more of these types instead of letting them rot in already overcrowded prisons more people might not need them for protection.

KHOU reports that Carl said his lady friend was in the car with him. Is that not part of the 1560 interview?

I hope everything turned out OK once she was left alone with a bunch of gun-toting thugs.
