I would easily put Scola after another year. Or hell, you can probably put him on already from his play this year.

Scola is turning out to be one of the best contributors the Rockets have ever had.

Do you put him ahead of Otis Thorpe?

To those of you putting Elvin Hayes on this list. Can you guys explain the selection?

I loved Big E, but most of his best years were played with other teams. He only had one really great season for us, then came back to Houston at the end of his career when his skills had really taken a hit due to age. I'd seriously put Ralph, Yao, etc ahead of E. He was a great Houston Cougar, though. :D

It's more a sentimental pick, really.

Kind of like Clyde. Even though Clyde got a ring.

I admit, I put him on my list more as a reflex. He's a HOF player, he was a Houston Cougar, he was the first "star" player on the team. And he came back to play for us near the end of his career (of course, those were terrible teams). It just seems like he belongs on the list. But, you're right, he didn't have a whole lot of real success as a Rocket.

Who do you guys think was the most underrated Rocket of all time?

I think we tend to overlook how solid Otis Thorpe was for a number of years. He's be my pick.

    I put him in because...

    1) He led the league in scoring as a rookie as a Rocket.
    2) To me he started the tradition of history of great big men in Rockets franchise.

    It's a very subjective choice.

Not Clyde. Clyde helped win second championship.

-He added second scoring punch and helped Hakeem get some rest. Took some pressure off of Hakeem.

-He kept the Rockets composed in Game 7 of 95 Western Conference Finals when they were getting hammered in first half.

-He led the charge against the Jazz in eliminating game 5 of first round plaoffs when Rockets were down 7 with couple minutes left.

-The Magic had no answer for his one man fast break in NBA Finals.

Those are specific contributions in a championsip run.

Which series are you talking about? There was no game 7 in the western conference finals that year. Do you mean the Suns series (kiss of death game)?

I would agree with this pick. Part of this was becuase he was never flashy (other than his full court baseball throw passes). He did exactly what was asked from him and he did it every night.

Yes, the Suns series. I confused it with the WCF with suns the previous year.

    I should have also added...

Clyde helped us make the playoffs in 95 too. With Hakeem out with injury, we desperately needed Clyde to create offense for others and he kept the ship afloat until Hakeem returned for playoffs.

Of course not.But Scola is easily getting up there in terms of contribution to the team. I don't think this team would even be half as good without Scola on the roster( This IS one of the better Rockets teams over the years).

At some point he will be considered one of the great contributors to the Rockets organization.

The biggest contribution (if you can call it that) made by J Howard was his big game against Nuggets in a meaningless game which robbed us of Brandon Roy.

Perfect timing by Juwan to have a good game! LOL!

Which is why I said "Clyde got a ring".

I realize he did these things, but Clyde's contribution in Houston was in joining a championship team... who can say what Hayes might have done had he joined the Rockets in the middle of a championship run?

On the whole of his career, Clyde's best games were played in other jerseys... and his career here was very short, same as Hayes. The timing was entirely different for their tentures, though.

LOL! Good call! My all-time favourite Non-Rockets player.

(For Hayesfan: Nick "The Brick" Anderson of Orlando Magic, who was a terrific shooter (3 point and FTs), went to line in Game 1 of the NBA finals. He had 4 chances to seal the game and win it for Magic. He missed all 4 FTs. In his own words, he choked. He missed almost everything in that series from there on and his career was downhill from there onwards.)
