IMO, neither Brown or Maddux are good, long-term backups at the point in the NBA. Both try really hard, but play in a semi-skittish way that just doesn't make it seem like they belong. We have to keep one for injury purposes, but keeping 4 point guards, even if one of them is inactive seems a little much. Maybe this means Brown gets the boot - but, Brown, Maddux, who cares...if either of them end up getting significant time the season isn't going too well. As of now, I'd like to drop the other one and keep Hawkins. That gives us 3 center (Ming, Cato, Collier), 3 PFs (MoT, KT, Griffin), 3 SF (Rice, Nachbar, TMo), 3 SG (Mobley, Torres, Hawkins) and 3 PG (Francis, Norris, Maddux) with three of those guys on the IR (Collier, Hawkins or Oscar, and Maddux, when Moochie is healthy), good balance, and a number of players who can play multiple positions.
Tito Maddux is perfect candidate for the developmental league. He looks like with daily work he might turn into something, but the rust from not playing for 1 2/3 years will take a long time to shake. We could bring him up if he shows promise and/or we have an injury. Brown has played exceptionally, so has Hawkins. Whatever happens I hope those 2 make the roster, they actually bring value and good game flow. Tito, Oscar and even Collier all seem to be here to 'get better' at some point which we can do without.
