I agree with DD on this one...

Its all about next year and beyond(this season ended a while back), I think Hill(22) should be starting at center for the remainder of the season(his earned it IMO), with Budinger(21) being the first guy to come off the bench with Kyle Lowry(23)....

Our players have minimal playoff experiences anyways.

We can't expect to win anything when our players are inexperienced when it counts.

I agree mostly but 2 things.

Before last night I thought there might have been a slim chance for us to go on a major streak. I wanted to see that play out. If we won out by some miracle than there definitely would be a chance for us to make the playoffs.

Secondly unless we just straight up tank it looks very difficult for us to do more than move to the 13th spot. So using the rest of the season to see what combinations help you win makes sense.

I'm not sure I'm going to agree with you guys. The best time to "developed" a player is by playing him in crunch time. And the stakes is at its highest during the playoffs.
For me personally, just by playing a couple minutes during playoffs is way better than playing 30 minutes in a "tanking" game.

Anyhow, Buddinger is a real good rookie, but seeing him as the future of the franchise? This is just too much.

Since when does Adelman not know how to do his job when it comes to developing talent??

Landry, Brooks (All-Star caliber, MIP leader), Lowry (potential starter), Scola (had to adjust to the U.S. game under Adelman), Hill (look at his progression since NY alone!)...

And why is it that playing more minutes in meaningless "give-away games" is the only way for a player to develop. To me, tanking games are probably a step above practice... oh wait, these guys practice? They develop and improve their game outside of the 48 minutes we see on TV? Well, I guess that's something to think about.

I totally agree that tanking when there is hope can breed a culture of losing. Try telling our guys, the warriors that they are, to sit out when they are perfectly healthy, so the younger guys can "develop". Once it's clear that we're out, then we can talk about the future, but as far as our guys are concerned the future is winning the next game in NY... and that's what I love about them.

I live in Chicago and there's plenty of room on this city's bandwagon for those who want to watch guys tank.

Side note: I'm hoping Chicago continues their losing ways as I have nice tickets to the Houston-Chicago game, and I would hope that the Rockets aren't in tank mode by Monday so I can walk away with a W and a smile.

Adelman has done a fine Job developing Landry and Brooks. More than fine.

I think he has done a lot to develop C-bud. It's not the number of minutes a guy plays you know. It's a lot more than that. Believe it or not, the things Adelman has Chase work on in practice is what counts more. Experience is important, but playing time on the court gets earned, not given.

That's why our players are so solid when they get minutes. It wasn't just handed to them, they earned the right. And that's why they respect the game so much.

Chase has to take minutes away from Shane by outplaying him. End of story - I'd have it no other way.

I agree. Adelman has always had that philosophy. He isn't afraid to play younger guys, but they have to CONSISTANTLY outplay the veterans if they want more minutes. This is why having a good mix of vets and rooks is so important. The established veterans lead by example and push the younger players to get better every day so that when their day comes, theyre ready to play unselfish, winning basketball.

Look, sometimes doing the right thing means ignoring the popular choice.

The only goal is a championship, and if you agree with that, IMO, you start playing for next year's championship today.

The reality is that playoffs this year are almost certainly out of reach, but please don't misunderstand me, I am not saying tank.

I am saying play Budinger, start Hill, call up Taylor, find out whether or not these guys are going to be part of next year or not.

Chuck Hayes and Shane Battier are known factors, there is no "X" factor in them, you know exactly what you are going to get....so find out what you are going to get from the other guys so you can make an informed decision in the offseason.

And to people whining about the defense.....puuuuhhhhlllleaaasee....add a 7'6" intimidator in the middle and watch EVERYONE'S defense get better.

Which BTW, you would get a small taste of with Hill starting instead of Chuck.

It is time to prepare for next year, at least IMO, it is.

I dont think that playing Bud and Hill at least 20 minutes a game is tanking so stop saying its not right to tank or whatever, developing young players doesn't mean we are not going to keep trying to win games, personally I wish we would tank so we could possibly get a better pick, but playing rookies more doesn't mean tanking.

    DD,

Whichever way you type it, you're referring to, basically, "tanking."

Of course younger players need opportunities to develop, but even Luis Scola, at the age of 29, still uses these games to further develop his game.

If there were 15 games left and we had NO CHANCE IN HELL To make the playoffs, I might agree with you. However, the numbers don't agree with you. There still is a chance, and stranger things have happened.

You wrote, "Sometimes you have to do what is right for the franchise." This proposal is wrong at this point.

Don't give up on your team, because your team has not given up on itself.

It happens here a lot, people leap to the wrong conclusion instead of understanding the point.

    Which you nailed, BTW.

I agree that we should get ready for next year, but that doesnt mean we should be sitting down all of our veteran players and giving all of their minutes to the younger guys.

We need our established core players to continue to play together especially down the stretch of games because those experiences are TEAM experiences that will be beneficial in the longterm. Its not about individual players playing more minutes and developing, its about developing as a team and learning how to win as a team.

I think the coaching staff already has a good idea of what they have in their younger players. Theyre talented, but still raw. There are tons of ways they can get better without playing heavy minutes that they haven't earned yet.

LOL - right after I posted that it is not tanking......heheh.

I disagree with the tanking part, I think you play guys that are part of the future together so they can start developing on court chemistry NOW.....

    Play:

    AB
    Martin
    Lowry
    Ariza
    Cbud
    Scola
    Hill

The most minutes and mix in players like Hayes, Battier and Andersen.....

But get your future guys as much time together as possible....the biggest improvement is by playing.....our young guys need to play on the NBA court to get ready, mentally and physically.

    DaDakota,

Maybe you should switch to exclusively supporting the Golden State Warriors.

They already have your favorite player, Corey Maggette and they surely "get it" as they have opted to "develop" their youngsters for years. As of right now they yet again have picked up a few diamonds in the rough from the D-League. Those dudes are so good that they don't need any veterans anyway.

They surely have a very bright future ahead of them. We are seeing the building of a dynasty. A few more years of developing and then they are ready. We should expect multiple champinoships from them, maybe even as early as in.....
    .... 2286 or 2287.

C-Budd has had lots of time to develop this season, since the injuries of Tmac, Ariza, Battier, Lowry. He is still a 2nd round pick that has played in I believe every game in which he has not been injured, he has even started in a few games due to other players injuries. Till the Rockets are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, Battier is still a better overall player. Budd has never been sent down to the d-league and has practiced with the team the entire season.

Jordan's Hill minutes have been increasing each and every game. He has been playing meaningful minutes down to the finish. I think playing Hill 20 minutes a game is about where he needs to be at. He is not going to start over Scola during the season, might be a good back up to him or Yao once he comes back. As the season starts to dwindle I do see his minutes continue to rise up. But till then if you start taking Battier's minutes and giving them to Budd than realistically you are starting to tank, if you bring in Taylor and start playing him outside of garbage time than you are definitely forgoing the rest of the season.

Bud has been playing ALL year... And Hill is already getting solid minutes, what he needs to work on is strength and bulking up.
Playing these guys for 30 minutes a night will do nothing but lose games.

The coach watches these guys everyday in practice and already plays them in the games. He knows what they can bring. 15 games won't reveal any substantial results. This "time to develop" stuff is way overrated...

You do realize there are not very many PRACTICES during an NBA season, mostly just shoot arounds and game prep.

Most of the practices in an NBA season are in the preseason....playing time is when they get better during the season.

Agree that they work on stuff, but I think a lot of people have a misconception about practice, there are not that many of them during the regular season.....so not much time to work on your games etc.....against competition.

Playing the young guys now, letting them learn on the NBA floor would expidite their growth, which is great for next year.

    This year = developmental year......so, uh...develop !

I noticed something last night when the Rox played Boston. If we are trying to win, why would we only shoot 2 pointers when down by 7 and under 2 minutes to go. I don't think they are actually trying to go to the playoffs, but they don't want to be called tankers either. I think RA is doing an excellent job of disguising the tank job. I've noticed a few games where it seems RA has played it differently than he has before. Anyone else notice this, or am I just crazy?

Explain to me what someone like Chase Budinger could "develop" in these last few games. Considering that he's been a key piece to the rotation all season long...

The focus shouldn't be on playing 1 or 2 guys more, it should be on building chemistry and a winning atmosphere. That would do far more for the team's future than 15-20 more minutes for a couple of guys who are ALREADY in the rotation. IMHO
