    maybe the issue is that islam isn't meant to be a government, its a religion, a spiritual and moral guideline for an individual and god, and its not supposed to be a in a political platform but the people realize if they use religion for reasoning, it unifies people and makes it easier to make rules. If you read the quran, it clearly goes against many of the violence, oppression, etc, the roots of those are political, cultural, and within those individuals, you have to loook to teh context for a long time back to understand it.

    Islam is not a government or a political party and shouldn't be, neither should christianity(which talks of stoning, etc). The separation of religion/church is important.

    So do I. The world would be such a better place if religion left politics alone, and "politics" did the same favor in return.
