I would fight that, if I were you. I see no way they can justify forcing you to take a $1200 course from them when a $300 alternative from a world-class university exists.
This is sounding more and more like something that should be taken up with the school board. It reeks of impropriety when a teacher (not the school), is forcing you to take tutoring from him/her to the tune of $1200.00. Gather up all the facts, present them to the school hierarchy (the prinicpal), get any findings in writing. Make sure you have a reasonable list of alternatives to the 'tutoring' option. Should they stick to the $1200.00 story, find out when the school board is meeting and ask to be heard. Ask the board if they have a "student advocate". If so, meet with him/her prior to the board meeting. Bring your documentation. Be succint and passionate in your talk. Don't be b****y and whiny.
Azadre, I still don't understand why you can't take Geometry through correspondence. I think you should go talk to your counselor again - you might need to bring your parents with you. Tell her you cannot afford a certified tutor (the teacher) for $1200! Tell her you would rather take Geometry through the University of Texas, Texas Tech University, or Brigham Young University. If your counselor and/or school doesn't recognize these universities, then I'm sorry your school is screwed up. You might also want to call up or shoot an email to the Distance Learning admissions office at these universities and ask them what to do.
btw, I don't understand how a teacher can force students to be tutored to receive credit in Geometry. The school is at fault because they are allowing it to happen. He's pocketing the $1200.
I'm a senior in high school who is in calculus ap now.. ..lol not sure i would have paid 1200 bucks to have the opportunity to take this ever so fun class
I took Algebra in 8th grade, and then followed suit with the rest of you guys. Guess what though? Had to take it all over again in college..same crap. Guess what part 2..... I NEVER USED ANY OF IT AGAIN !!!! DaDakota
Heh, I did that for Physical Education: Bowling, and failed. I did not send in one lesson during the 10 months I had. But since it never showed up on my record, it wasn't a big loss, just lost $120 or whatever I paid.
