Horrible.. A 12 story condo building with 100 units partially collapses. This building was 40 years old and made of reinforced concrete. One is dead but the search for survivors is still going on and possibly more are dead. This building is 40 years old and made of reinforced concrete. My own guess is this is either a subsidence of the foundation or else water got into the concrete and degraded the steel reinforcing inside. https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/miami-florida-building-collapse-06-24-21/index.html
51 people missing. You have to think dozens died unless it was largely unoccupied. I remember as a kid when this kind of thing only happened in other countries.
Christ, I thought half a building collapsed from the pictures... that's so much worse. How anyone survives that?
Did you see the freakin light that came on. Can you imagine being woken up not knowing what the **** was going on and then you are just falling with a building coming down on you. I got chills.
100+ deaths looking really possible (no contact) -- the building collapsed at the worst possible time
Hope is slim that more will be found alive but there have been many stories of people buried under building collapses being found alive days later.
Somebody (likely multiple somebodies) needs to go to prison for this. We have multiple safeguards (frankly to the point of being annoying) to prevent this from happening, which is why it doesn't happen in this country despite there being thousands upon thousands of buildings this size. This was an intentional blind eye.
