we are loaded with talents now, even our third string players like snyder/head/ab are pretty decent players, we have to take advantage of our depths
Hard to come up with this list when we know the roster will change, but: Starting: Francis Tmac Battier Scola (hopefully, he's good enough) Yao Bench: James Wells Snyder Head Hayes Deke Brooks Honestly, we need to move Rafer and get another PF. The roster's a little imbalanced right now.
I have a feeling MJames will start instead of Francis.. Steve just doesn't have the catch and shoot qualities that we need.
I think the starting 5 you have is on the money but I disagree with the bench. Bench: James Wells Snyder Head Landry and/or Harris Butler Brooks I think going with Landry, Harris, and Butler to replace the Deke and Chuck may be a possible option, especially considering those 2 aren't yet under contract. And what about that Reed guy from the MJ trade? Does he fit in here somewhere?
People keep questioning Scola's significance.Scola is more valuable than francis to this team. He might be the glue because the way the offense is ran,Scola will be one of the most important piece because of his ability to pass the rock, set screens and move without the ball. The only area of concern with scola will be on the defensive end,but offensively he is a plug in right now because he can hit the elbow jumpers, pass the ball, he is unselfish, he will set screens for guy's to get open and you really can run the offense through him because of these skills. Jeff foster, undonis haslem or even chuck hayes don't fit into what adelman wants to do offensively. Adleman likes all 5 players to be able to have some sort offensive threat and more importantly ball movers and guy's that really know how to play screen and roll on offense. Scola fits this bill
STARTERS 1) Steve Francis 2) Tracy McGrady 3) Shane Battier 4) Luis Scola 5) Yao Ming BENCH 6) Mike James 7) Bonzi Wells 8) Luther Head 9) Chuck Hayes 10) Steve Novak 11) Aaron Brooks 12) Dikembe Mutombo
I don't think Francis will start, unless he plays the 2 position. I like James, Francis, TMac, Scola, Yao. That would be interesting. You could score from anywhere and everywhere. You could put Brooks, James, TMac, Scola, and Synder on the floor and blow people out of the building.
Quality of talent on our team: 1.Tracy McGrady- all-star 2.Yao Ming- all-star 3.Shane Batter- starter 4.Bonzi Wells- starter 5.Luis Scola- starter/6th man 6.Mike James- starter/6th man 7.Steve Francis- starter/6th man 8.Rafer Alston- 6th man/starter 9.Luther Head- 6th man 10.Aaron Brooks- potential 6th man 11.Kirk Snyder- bench player 12.Jackie Butler- bench player 13.Chuck Hayes- bench player/ border-line scrub 14.Dikembe Mutombo- bench player/border-line scrub 15.Mike Harris- border-line scrub 16.Carl Landry- border-line scrub 17.Steve Novak- border-line scrub 18.Justin Reed- scrub 19.John Lucas- scrub 20. Jake Tsakalidis- scrub So, from this opinionated list based on talent, we 7 players who are of starter quality, not including Alston and Hayes who both started last year; 5 players who can fit the mold of 6th man; and 14 players in all that can be major rotation players, not including Harris, Novak, and Landry who are all good candidates to make the team. Good thing I don't need to put this team together.
i would bet minutes look like this: yao (36) scola (24) shane (30) tmac (36) steve (30) james off the bench at the 1 and 2 (24 minutes) bonzi off the bench at the 2 and 3 (24 mintues) if rafer is traded for foster he would get minutes at the 4 and 5 (24) hayes plays the remaining minutes in the front court (12)
there will be no 12 man rotation, we'll have 12 players active but a couple of them are gonna get real friendly with the bench.
Guaranteed Starters: Yao McGrady Battier Guaranteed Minutes: Wells James Francis Scola Probable Limited Minutes: Backup Center (don't know everyone's contract status at the moment) Players that could be anything from Trade Bait to Rotation Guys, and what I would like to see: Alston - trade (playoff choker) Head - trade (playoff choker) Lucas - trade (unknkown, overcrowded at point) Snyder - trade if he brings in a sure contributor (unknown) Novak - trade if he brings in a sure contributor Hayes - bench warmer, good against bottom dwellers, but irrelevant in playoffs Brooks - develop Butler - no clue Landry - no clue I think at this moment we have 7 VERY talented rotation players and a lot of potential on the bench that could end up being traded as a consolidation deal or developed over the course of the season. Novak, Brooks, Snyder, and Hayes stike me as the most likely to be here next year and have a chance at minutes, but I would trade any of those guys except Brooks if they bring in a guaranteed contributor. I would try to trade for length, athleticism, intangibles. Bring in a 4 or 4/3 for bench defense, speed, and flexibility. The only common "contender" role player we are missing is the Stackhouse/Finley/Horry type.
You could at least wait until you see them in something other than summer league before you call them a scrub or even a border-line scrub. At least someon further down on this page wrote (Name-no clue), which is what all of should be saying right now. And yeah I think we all know it's a good thing that you don't have to put this team together.
Starters: Tmac, Yao, Steve, Scola, Battier Bench (replaced player): Wells, James (Head), Harris, Landry (Chuck), Butler (Deke), Brooks (Alston), Snyder * Head is definitely a better shooter, however, James is a better all around player and can play some serious D and handle the rock, which is Luther's weakness * Chuck is definitely a better hustle guy than Landry, however, we our team now Landry probably wont see that many minutes, since Battier and Butler can play the PF * Deke is definitely a better defender, however, his skills have eroded. I see Butler being a able to spell Yao in the West due to lack of topflight centers * Alston - great setup point guard, however, in this offense, thats not needed. Brooks is being groomed for the future in case Steve and MJ breakdwon 3 in Street Clothes: * Reed (This guy isn't a scrub hasn't had the opportunity) * Novak (This is a scrub, only shoots 3's and nothing nelse) * Mutumbo (Just in case Yao goes down)
A twelve-man rotation is an invitation to never develop chemistry and to keep players cold. Give me nine, maybe ten, and we are in great shape. Once the Rafer Alston situation gets resolved, then we should have what we need: James/Francis McGrady/Wells Battier/McGrady Hayes/Scola Yao/Mutombo That's nine, plus hopefully one more big we can get in a trade for Rafer. Toss in Brooks, Butler, and possibly Head or Snyder, and that is a solid twelve-man active bench.
