The only games that will sellout this year will be Lakers- To see Kobe and Shaq 76ers- To see Iverson and Francis go at it Spurs- Half will be Spurs fans Blazers- To booooo Pippen Knicks- Just because they are from NY Raptors- To see Carter
scarface. yeah right. THats why we have what somewhere around 200 people posting here. Thats why we were sold out for like four years straight until a game last year. I say that houston has some of hte best fans. But i give best fans to NY or Hotlanta.
Sorry, but Houston is a 2nd rate city when it comes to support... The Compaq Center has never been known to be a loud arena... Whether Atl had 18,000 people in their arena or not, the fact of the matter is that they sold their tickets... Rockets fans aren't even bothering to buy tickets... I bought my Laker tickets for Dec 23 one month ago... I did this because I expected the tickets to be gobbled up fast (like in the mid-90's) but I'm sure if I tried today, I could by a decent seat to the Lakers game... If we were such a great sports town, we would have 4 teams instead of 2... After we get our 3rd team (the Texans), there is a chance that the Rockets leave, giving us only 2... The Rockets are the only team in the city that has won jack (I don't count the Comets) in terms of major league sports... I know that Enron Field is nice and pretty, but why is it that a 42,000 seat stadium with a HORRIBLE PRODUCT ON THE FIELD for 81 games, can come closer to selling out than a 16,000 seat arena with only 41 games? I can bet that if the Rockets were drawing 11,000 in the 90's, we would never have gotten Drexler, Barkley or Pippen to play for us... ------------------ [This message has been edited by kidrock8 (edited November 01, 2000).]
WARNING: The following is sarcasm for those of you who cannot recognize it. If I didn't live here, I wouldn't live here. We suck. We can't spend money on a ticket and everyone hates us. We are the worst city on the planet and it is all because only 11,000 people showed up to the Rockets game. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Alot of the stadiums have trick or treating for the kids inside the arena (paid for by the sponsors). Did the Rockets not do that? I was at the Columbus Blue Jacket hockey game and all the kids had a blast putting on their costumes and trick or treating before the game. 11,000 is very poor, it was opening night holiday or no holiday people should have been there. ------------------
I now live in Houston and I did not attend the game. I didn't go because I didn't want to go. I watched the game on television because I think it is a more enjoyable experience. Even in the Olajuwon glory-days, I preferred watching on television to going to the arena. If they want me to attend, they better improve their product -- and I'm not even talking about the team. There's no reason why I or anyone else should be expected to attend. We are the customers and we don't have to attend if we don't want. If the arena isn't full, that means the Rockets aren't doing a good job, not the citizenry of Houston. They don't need to know I love and support them; they need to entertain me, that is all. ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Well 1st of all Atlanta is a crappy sports city other than the Braves. The Hawks never sell out and the Falcons sold out only in the Suberbowl year. Now that being said Houston is just as bad Jeff. We have a LOT of members on this message board but not all are from Houston. We all love OUR Rockets but the feeling is not the same for the city of Houston, they all say they do but when the Rockets are 30-52 where are the fans?? I've been VERY fortunate enough to have travelled to other cities and watch games abroad and Houston fans are just bandwagon fans. This is coming from someone who was BORN and RAISED in H-town too so it pains me to say that, anyhow thats what I have unreluctantly have found out about our fellow fans. Anyhow Go Rockets and Go Arena (lets hope we can fill er up!) in 2k. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
Scarface, Atlanta can't even sell out Braves' games. They are much worse than Houston fans. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of yourself and umption. visit www.swirve.com
Unfortunately, I agree with Scarface. I was an Oiler season ticket holder for 7 years. We went to the playoffs 7 years in a row. Something that I don't think any other NFL team has done. They could not sell out the PLAYOFF games in time to prevent blackouts. Randalls or Mattress Mack usually bought up the last few thousand tickets. It's a shame that we don't support our professional teams better. I do believe that we are one of only a few NBA teams that televise every single game. More people would go to the game if they couldn't sit home and watch it on TV. ------------------
If people didn't go to Oilers games even when the games were blacked out, what makes you think people would go to Rockets games if they were blacked out? Also considering that the financial impact of television is far greater than the financial impact of having all the seats filled in the arena, broadcasting all the Rockets games is actually good for the team even if it means fewer seats get sold. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
houston does have fair weather fans. no doubt about that, for real. i mean, it's one thing to spend your day on the bbs, talking. it's another thing to put your cheddar where your piehole is, ya know? seriously, i've been to games at the Summit (it'll always be that to me) where people were yelling "Sit Down!" and "Shut Up!" and i was yelling for the damn rockets. i mean, i understand the social ramifications of going to a pro bball game (L.A. Lakers, for one), but even their fans get rowdy! we don't. at least not collectively. we act like it's a frickin golf tourny not a bball game. that said (and i know i'm ranting ), at least those fans show up for the damn game. listen, even the clippers get people to go to their games. AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN TRYING TO WIN. the people go to see the other teams. we can't get people to show up for an organization with an owner who'll pull out all the stops to bring in the best players in the league. does anyone in here question whether we'll go after webber next season? is there anyone at all? that the power of les, baby. like others said in here, we have one of the most exciting teams in the league. GO OUT AND SUPPORT THEM. whenever they're in San Antonio, i do. and whenever i'm in the "H" i will. can you say the same? ------------------ Mobley and Francis ...are not the two best players on the team. - Rockeem 11/2/2000 [This message has been edited by verse (edited November 02, 2000).] [This message has been edited by verse (edited November 02, 2000).]
ticket prices are also very high. With a new arena with more seats this might not be as much of a problem as it has been.
also about the ten year olds going trick or treating, who takes them? parents, siblings, or some other adult or respoinsible person. with every ten year old is at least on 15+ person. who buys tickets to a rockets game? someone probably 17+. Huh? Right.
Well, are they having another Halloween tonight? The crowd looks even smaller. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of yourself and umption. visit www.swirve.com
Rock95, You are right. Atlanta doesn't sell out EVERY game of a 162 game season and another 20 in the playoffs. But they do draw 3.5 million fans per year at a place where a hot dog costs damn near 10 dollars. Oh, and the soda is 6 bucks for a 16 ounce. And the meat isn't even real. After what I saw from NYC and their fans, I have to say H-Town is pretty bad except for high school and college football. I didn't see anyone trick or treating instead of selling out that corny ass, overrated, overhyped and overpriced Madison Square Garden. Or how many people stayed home in Orlando? With a star like Francis, there should be NO EXCUSE WHAT SO EVER to not sell out. NONE. ------------------
I feel you Almu I got season tix to the Warriors 5 years ago to watch Dream two times a year now its because of Francis. If I get tix to a team which is not even my favorite their is NO reason why a TRUE fan should not go to the game. If we were say the Clevland Cavs or we had no hope for the future and just were really boring then I could see there being some empty seats, but we don't and what pisses me off even more about Rox fans is that they don't even appreciate what we have. Folks we have the best owner, the best city(well thats an exageration but...), the most exciting team and the best front office and we can't sell out opening day against arguably the best player in the NBA in KG????????? Well Halloween was the excuse we used on the rest of the world, well how about day two? 10,687 fans. Thats worse than embarassing thats pathetic. I'll probably go to more Rox games than the majority of the fans in Houston will and the sad fact is the Rox only come to Golden State 2 times this year. This rant is really not directed at any member of this site since if you come and spend your time on this great website you truly are a fan, this rant is more of a wake up call to the CITY OF HOUSTON. Houston we have a problem. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
I just don't understand what difference it makes. I almost never go to games. I can't always afford it and don't always have time. Sometimes, I just prefer watching it in the comfort of my living room to driving down there. So what! Is it some sort of mark of how great we are as people. I mean, NYC turns out in droves. Where would you rather live? I don't see how the turnout or lack of turnout to a sporting event is a reflection of a city and how good it is. We have fairweather fans. Who cares. If you have a way to fix the situation, GREAT! Fix it. If not, quit complaining and move on to something we can fix or at least something we can discuss. I just don't see the sense in complaining if there is no solution. Houston fans are fickle. That is the nature of Houston. It has always been that way and it will likely always be that way. Next topic. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
