How would you like to break up the Sports section of the BBS?

    I second this.

For example it sucks having to browse 2 different sections to read about Moss. The Football section has the thread about him being waived, and the Texans one has the thread about him being signed (potentially) by the Texans.

But you agree those are two different threads, right? So it would be one forum with both of those threads.

I appreciate all the feedback from everyone... we've been through two weekends of the football forum. Any thoughts on what the next step should be?

Outside of keeping it as-is with the football forum, I think there are two camps (unless I'm mistaken):

    Option 1:

SPORTS

Football (including Texans)
Baseball (including Astros)
Other Sports

    Option 2:

SPORTS

Houston Sports (Astros, Texans, Dynamo)
All Other Sports (NFL, MLB, Soccer, anything non-basketball sports related)

I think Option 2 would work right now as far as it being two popular forums, but I think long-term the organization of Option 1 is better. I don't like the idea of doing that right now though because baseball is headed for a long winter.

    I vote for Option 1.

I think this great site has outgrown the "Houston Only" forum (except the GARM, of course). It feels strange having the Texans in a totally different forum than the rest of the NFL. [insert obvious joke about them not belonging in the NFL after last night]

Option 1 all the way. And thanks for giving a crap about what we think, Clutch.

If you like Texans, you most likely like football and will keep track of other teams in NFL (and college). I think it's easier for people to associate with the sport they like than all the home teams in Houston.

I love basketball, I like football, but have no interest in baseball.

    OPTION 1. No doubt.

I like things neat and organized. Often, what's going on in the NFL/MLB has a direct impact on what is happening with the Texans/Astros. If I'm reading about the Stros, I want to be able to see what's going on with the other MLB teams in the same forum. Ditto for Texans.

It would seem silly to have to bounce back and forth between two different football forums just because one subject might have a little more to do with the Texans than another. We should only have a DEDICATED FORUM for the Houston Rockets (the reason we're all here anyway). Other NBA talk DOES need to be separate in that case.

I hope we always stay a Houston forum and that should be the primary focus of each sub-forum. Let's just expand the discussions a bit in the MLB/NFL parts to include news/opinions/diatribes from around those respective leagues. Yao Ming?

    I like option 2.

I like having all the info and discussion on the teams I care about most in one place as it has been for years now. I think if you went with option 1, there would be a lot more clutter and it would be hard to find topics on Texans/Astros because they will sink to the 2nd/3rd pages sooner. A lot of threads on the Texans are on-going threads that were created a while ago and get bumped occasionally as the season goes on.

Then the other forum can be the "Sports Dish" ... a way to discuss all of the major happenings in all sports, and just like any other forum you can avoid topics you don't care about. I just wouldn't like to see Astros/Texans topics diluted by other threads.

I want to keep the current format: Houston Sports section, Football section, everything else in the Hangout.

I like option number two. Have a place to discuss Houston sports only (Texans, Astros, and Dynamo) and then have a separate forum for all other sports. I can live with the first option in the poll, though.

i voted against #1 all football including texans because as someone not from houston or texas I care as much about the texans as I do the seattle seahawks...I do enjoy football a lot though and i would be worried that if the texans stuff was merged with general football the vast majority of the threads would be texans related and dominate most of the forum.

I don't want more forums. Voted for the status quo, though I don't mind the football forum being turned into an all non-Houston sports forum.

I voted for option 2: Houston Sports forum and Other Sports forum

Since I dont like baseball a lot, but I like to see some of the Astros threads, so I like to Houston Sports stays like this way.

In baseball season, people visit Houston Sports for Astros, then when its over (or almost over) people visit it for the texans.

So I think option 2 (Houston sports and other sports), or option 3 (dont make any changes) its better.

I like Option 1, but that's gonna leave us with a Sports forum split into 4 categories: Texans & Football, Astros & Baseball, All Other Sports, and Fantasy Sports.

Because of the fact that the last two will be relative ghost towns, I'd like to suggest merging them:

    Texans & Football
    Astros & Baseball
    Other Sports: Reality & Fantasy

    +1 on this.

Option #1, thats how it works on Houston Chronicle sports. When you click a Texans or Astros article, it'll show related articles of the team and of the same sport.

Though Chronicle also has a small "top stories" section of nothing but titles-only of anything in any sport without it mentioning what sports it in. You can tell just from the title the sport it belongs to. This was my preferred method actually, Major's idea of 1 forum for all sports.

Option #1 will work for football. Not sure about baseball as far as being active. Though lack of baseball is misleading in that all the Astros talk is all compacted into one "Offseason" thread. There's half a forum material right there.

Fantasy would give an Other Sports forum much needed life. The fantasy sports posters are already used to separating away from the main forums into their own corner of the site. I see little reason why it can't be part of a bigger forum. Or in reverse, don't see why the fantasy forum couldnt expand itself to allow a non-intrusive post about NASCAR.
